Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Boston.
Hi Tanisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am the CEO and head stylist for Lifestyled Studio. I had the pleasure of wearing many hats in the fashion industry; from retail, working alongside buyers in major retail companies, to project coordinating runway shows for Warner Brothers. Growing up in a single-parent household taught me to create my own style with the little bit I had just so I can follow the fashion crowd. Although I was being creative with trends, this also meant that I could not fully be my authentic self but rather had to wear what best-fit society’s standards. As became more familiar with the fashion industry as an adult, I realized that this was not fashion or style at all. The true beauty of fashion and style is experiencing one’s true identity by how they dress. I decided to break the social rules of style by giving people a platform to freely embrace their true identity and express it to the world in their personal way. I wanted to remind them that who they are and what they have is already precious, and all that’s needed is guidance on how to shine again.
In my line of work and expertise, I’ve learned how to bridge the gap between high fashion and budget styling with a unique strategy unlike anyone else by making what was once valuable again. I help my clients understand how important they really are to the world and how their personal style will grant access to new levels and remind them why they are still here and why they are here to stay.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to a success in my career in the fashion industry was and still is a rocky road simply because you are going up against standards set in place to control the beauty standard of style. Being a black woman in America definitely still plays a big role on rather I would be accepted in certain rooms in my industry. I had to simply go against the stigma that was set against woman like me, being caught between having to fit in or daring to stand out. I was constantly reminded of how extra hard I needed to work to prove that I belonged in this industry, and in doing that, I decided to create my own space, encouraging others to do the same whenever their personal style was not being welcomed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Today I am a freelance wardrobe stylist whose mission is to help people rediscover who they are and apply it to their wardrobe. I specialize in the counsel of self-love by teaching my clients not only on how to dress but also on how to love themselves again. Society has done a great job at making us all feel as though we are not enough, and my job is to show how wrong society is. I am proud at the fact that I got the opportunity to work in these fields of fashion because that means my clients do not have to experience what I experienced. And this is what separates me from others in my industry, I uniquely cater to my client’s needs not the other way around. I extend my expertise in unison to their lifestyle and what fits their personality best, making them feel more secure in their own skin and body type.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me the most is being a part of God’s plan when it comes down to the people He created. He made us all beautifully with no mistakes, and I simply want to help people rediscover that about themselves.
