Meet Tamir Kedem

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamir Kedem.

Tamir, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I came to LA two and a half years ago, after a brief semester in The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Israel/NY to complete my Bachelor’s degree at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

After my mind was exploded by the amazing people, teachers and musicians around LA and CalArts, I’ve decided that I want to create music and play it around the city to the people and play it as much as I can.

I gathered some of my friends, who are also amazing musicians and beautiful personalities (which is a main component that I’m looking for in people that I play with), and wrote music specifically for those people that I love.

They’re my inspiration!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We’ve been playing for a year now, and it’s just the beginning – so like every beginning, we try to shoot in all directions. Luckily, we’re very dedicated and we’re working hard to bring the music out there!

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
We are an eight piece band, and we’re playing the music that I wrote for the band, but it’s our music.

Our music is cruising between the written & the improvised. We love to let the music grow and get to adventure places while keeping in mind that on our way there we need to be careful.

We take the audience through a journey to marvelous Mediterranean deserts and scary forests (you can hear those in our EP).

We are a large band with a big sound, meanwhile, we function as one unit.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I liked to explore my surroundings and go on journeys into the unknown.

Very energetic and scattered as well.

I really liked music and songs that my parents played for me, and also was mesmerized by the TV.
