Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamia Haynes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I always loved beauty… But because I had to grow up so fast due to my home circumstances with a mother that was on drugs… I worked as a teen had a child at 17 did not graduate high school until I was 22 years old. I moved out and had been on my own since I was 17 years old… It was important for me to have a good environment for my child…

I was in Cosmetology School but dropped out. I needed to work… I worked two jobs and met a lady at a gas station and just by talking to her. I got into Corporate America, started off as A cashier and worked my way up to a Senior Payroll/HR Manager… I did this for over 17 years… The thing is, I was never fulfilled and towards the end, I was just really unhappy… By this time, I am married and I have two kids, one with my husband and two we adopted out of the system… I am over 40 and wanted to start something new. Very Scary! But I had been looking at Microblading for about year and decided I’d get some brows… They were done poorly and faded away, thank god after four months… Thank God for cheap ink in this case. Then I got to thinking, I could do this, I love beauty… So, I took a class and began my journey while working a full-time job… that side hustle turned into a full-time hustle 18 months later… I am sooo glad I took my happiness seriously and invested in myself… Now, I have this passion for Permanent Makeup and truely see how it helps so many. It’s like Christmas Morning when you your clients see the results. I have a skill no one can take from me. I specialize in Brows but do All things Permanent Make Up. Currently taking an advanced Areola Class so I can help cancer survivors giving them faux Areolas to their new reconstructed Breast… This is such a beautiful way to give ALL women confidence and feel beautiful everyday. I am grateful everyday…

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not always easy so many people were saying doing Brows is not a real job. You have a stable job you make good money at… What are you thinking? I would say “but I’m helping someone else’s dream not mine”… Even my husband did not get it. He did support me financially while transitioning but the ups and downs of starting a new business is not always easy. It did not matter what anyone said. It’s what I wanted to do so I was not turning back or giving up. Honestly, I was not even good at first. It was educating myself and practicing not giving up. It was hard finding time to practice my craft while having kids and work but if you want something bad enough, you will find a way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Cosmetic Permanent Make Up Artist. I specialize in Soft Pixelated Brows but Also do Hair Strokes, Lip Blushing, Eyeliner, scar camouflage, stretch marks and Areola Tattoos… I am most proud of my perseverance and taking the time to learn and perfect my craft and will always continue educating myself… I think what sets me apart from other artists is my compassion my attention to detail really caring and treating someone’s face or body like it is my own… I love teaching and showing others. I actually really care if they are successful or not. That reflects me, you know. I also tell the truth and keep it as real as possible so my clients have realistic expectations… I have no problem saying no. My name is far more important than giving a procedure, I know you are not a candidate for that will not produce the best results… It’s not just about money for me…It is about changing lives.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very outspoken. I was outgoing but even as a child, I was resilient and never took anyone’s crap. I really loved to be goofy and laugh. Me and my sister would lay in bed and makeup rhymes and think it was so funny. We would be in tears laughing… I loved to look at magazines and listen to KDAY which was a rap station back in the day. I was in love with Prince Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson omg God and Special Ed. I Knew all the steps to the Pleasure Principle Video. I loved music it was soothing to the soul no matter what we were going through… I also loved roller skating… I was a Tomboy but loved dressing up putting on makeup and having the latest hairstyles but then would go climb gates and trees with the boys…
