Today, we’d like to introduce you to Talisa Tossell. Talisa was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented OG Slimes.
Hi Talisa, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
In 2016, i was 19 years old and represented under an acting agency in the hopes of being an actor. As each audition passed I realised this wasn’t what i wanted for this part of my life, i didn’t feel ready and I wasn’t enjoying it. Acting was all i had prepared to do and so I felt very lost in which direction to go in. As an escape I would endlessly scroll on social media and one day I came across a gooey substance called slime. I thought it was odd. I came across it a few more times that week and found myself clicking each time, eventually i found one with a nice crunch to it. ‘Oh! this is why people like it’ i thought to myself.
I saved a few of the videos i enjoyed to my phone, as there were so many terrible ones and very few good ones. My phones storage got full quickly and i had to decide what to do with it. I ended up creating a burner instagram account to post them on when my friend was watching a movie i didn’t want to watch and by the end of the movie that account went from 0 to 5000 followers. In two hours.
This was huge for me, i felt this rush of excitement and hope of something new. As these were other peoples videos i promised myself i would never profit off them or run ads on this account and i never did. But, for a year on I posted 60 videos a day, crediting the original creators at the very top of the post and by extension helping them jump 10s of thousands of followers each night as the account grew to have 800,000 followers.
The questions flew in about how to make it- truth is, i didn’t really know either. I had however built a great relationship with the accounts I was reposting and they led me through how the general processes went. I made a one off youtube video and overnight it got 2million youtube views. ‘This is my job now’ was all i could think. I thought it would last 2 months, maybe 3 tops. That was 2017 and now in 2023 it is still my full time job.
Please talk to us about your creative work and career. What should we know?
Through the years, what is received well changes so I have to constantly reinvent myself and have found myself at that space again. Slime is an art medium so I’m excited to see what i can make next. Through slime i got the opportunity to do amazing things- the most recent standout was visiting the black widow set as two time Oscar winner Chris Munro, the head of sound on the film and all of the mission impossible films, wanted to incorporate some asmr into the film. I have also recently opened a slime shop in the US and i’m finding running my first business really enjoyable. I want to do more side projects alongside slime with other interests being music and perhaps, one day, maybe floating back to acting.
