Meet Tali Younessian of Modesty in style LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tali Younessian

Hi Tali , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
7 years ago I was faced with tragidy when my precious 2 year old daughter accidentally drowned in the bathtub while she was bathing with her 4 year old sister.

My daughter suffered severe brain injuries and has been in a vegetative state since then. The entire community came together to pray and show their support for my daughter recovery. Unfortunately she never recoverd and she still remains in a children’s center with 24/7 care .

This tragic accident made me get closer to G-D and started to become more religious and cover my hair as a form of modesty which is very important and holy in the Jewish religion..

As a struggling single mother I started selling clothing out of my friends garage to make ends meet. I then acquired a nice following of very nice women that encouraged me to open up my very own store. Now with the help of G-D and some close friends I was able to open a small store in pico Robertson area of LA offering affordable modest dresses to the community. Our main mission is to inspire women to see the beauty of modesty and give back to the community by offering them beautiful modesty clothing at an affordable price.

Hopefully this will inspire other women to follow their dreams and turn something negative into a positive action that will help others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had several struggles and I’m still learning as I go. One of the main issues is marketing the business and getting new clientle. Since there was significant cost related to opening the store , the budget for the marketing was tight so I had to get creative. I gathered friends and had them help me pass out flyers all over the community, as well as going to networking events and tons of free social media posts . I’m really grateful for everyone that helped me and believed in me.

Another issue was finding out how to manage store hours as a single mom. I’m depending on my Ex husband to help watch my daughter so I can have time to open the store. But his availablilty ranges from day to day so my store hours were fluctuating and that was creating a confusion at first. It is tough to manage a set schedule when you’re single mother.

Self doubt. That was big one. There are moments that I questioned myself when some of the days were slow and I was lucky if I saw 1 customer all day. But I was surround by great friends that assured me and boosted my confidence and made sure that I didn’t second guess myself. So being surround by positive people is extremely important.

As you know, we’re big fans of Modesty in style LA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Modesty in style is a women’s clothing store specializing in modest dresses that hell inspire the community so women can see the beauty of modesty and save money by taking advantage of the amazing prices . We buy store returns and have local shops do consignment with us. That allows us to be able to pass down the savings to the customer. So it’s a win win for all.

We sell women and girls clothing that are new with tags and without and gently pre owned designer clothing that’s in excellent new condition. A large vintage selection. The dresses that we carry are just 1 of each so it really feels like a treasure hunt when you shop so I would suggest that people come and check out our weekly Arrivals since every week we see new dresses that we might not see come again.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Not to give up. There will be times that will be challenging but to have faith and be creative and always be surrounded by positive people.

The energy that you surround yourself with is extremely important . It’s contagious , so make sure you have a great support system . Your thoughts become reality so make sure you remain calm and positive.

Another thing I wish I had was serval months worth of rent saved as backup. Unfortunately I opened the store with all the money I had which was barely enough just to open the front door.
