Meet Taj Meadows of Chances and Co in Los Angeles/Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taj Meadows.

Taj, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to start a clothing brand as a hobby just because I liked wearing cool clothes. I started my clothing brand for a few personal reasons. I simply got tired of buying other clothes, a few different phases I was going through in life, and I wanted to create something that I follow and believe in. Hence where the name “Chances“ came from. At the time, I was taking chances and betting on myself in different instances which spearheaded the inspiration for the brand. I reached out to my uncle, Rico Hendrick who does graphic design and apparel screen printing, with my ideas and concepts. I chose the dice for aesthetics and those particular numbers for a reason. When you take a chance out the gate with those numbers you win. So applying that concept to us we can win when we bet on ourselves. We brainstormed and came up with our signature logo featured on our website Chancesla.com. I’m very much family-oriented and thought the idea of starting my brand with my uncle would be cool for the both of us and the family.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were definitely trial and error along the way. Like with anything else there’s going to be bumps along the road. We just have to learn how to go along and take our losses and learn from them. Fortunately, my uncle has experience with apparel combined with my branding expertise we’ve been able to avoid to avoid a few struggles and roadblocks others may encounter. Finding the right quality merchandise and different suppliers for our goods has probably been our only roadblock. Nonetheless, we make it work and provide top-tier quality merchandise for all our customers to enjoy.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Chances and Co – what should we know?
Chances is a clothing brand designed to encourage everyone, myself included to take chances and bet on themselves in any situation. Inspiring others to have confidence and believe in their abilities. We aim to provide quality streetwear merchandise exemplifying these principles through various artwork and design. As a company, we are proud of those who decide to take that chance and really embody what the brand stands for. I believe our message, quality, and attention to detail is what distinguishes us from other brands and startups.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My uncle, Rico. We literally do everything in house from the design work on the computer, creating the screens, and to the actual screen printing. He’s taught me quite a few things growing up on how to make t-shirts and all the steps that it takes to get a complete product. I think it’s very cool to be doing this brand with him. Being able to really create something for both of us to be proud of. I also credit my dad and brother for creative input and support as well. My mother deserves some credit also because she helped set up our shipping account through her postal connections at work. Incorporating my family members and having my close support group along the way is true to my core and something I’m proud of and hope it benefits all of us.
