Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahira Yousuf.
Tahira, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born & brought up from Pakistan. After completing my B.S Hons in English Literature and Mass Communications, I moved to Dubai, UAE for Job purpose. I worked as a Senior Events Coordinator to the Managing Director in an Events Management Company that used to deal with government and semi government dept. for cooperate events, fashion shows, exhibitions, and seminars etc.
Professionally, I wanted to grow as an extraordinary woman so I planned to do some business so beauty services hit to my mind as my elder sister used to run the salon in Abu Dhabi (other state of UAE) and I learned all that from her when I went to visit her during my studies. I have always been into makeup and pampering myself 😛 .. so, I love to do all this stuff.
Events management and Beauty & Makeup both are my passion. My first priority was to open an events management company, but for this business, I need more investment and esp. the clients and business. I always wanted to do only that thing in which I can find myself 100% perfect. As I found my expertise in this field too so I started to do clients as a freelancer to keep my hand in practice and planned to open a proper studio in US as my family was settled since many years in US and applied for my immigration.
So, 6 months before I moved to US and in mid of OCT 2016 I started my business and it is progressing. As the business is appearing on Yelp’s first page with 5-star rating from last 2 months. Also, I have many clients who are regularly repeating and referring me to their family and friends too.
Also, I still have a plan to open an events management company too once studio starts to run smoothly…As I mentioned earlier I want to grow as an Extraordinary Woman so I want to be a successful lady not only with one passion but the other one too. 🙂
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I can see a good growth as its been just 4-5 months and I started with zero client. Within this time period I am on 1st page with 5-star rating on Yelp, doing a lot social networking and getting good response. Has started to work in fashion shows too as a makeup artist. And main thing is this that I am able to continue this business as I can judge that it is growing.
But the obstacle that I find in it is the lack of walk-ins and people’s ignorance about eyebrows.
Eyebrows is the most important part on your face. The first thing when people look at you they unintentionally look at your eyebrows. Many people know how to remove the hair but they don’t know how to shape and balance the both eyebrows. People they don’t notice. They should realize how important their eyebrows are.

If we talk about Threading – they find it without pain or less painful with me … esp no redness and breakouts after threading. It makes me so happy when they say my hand is “VERY GENTLE”.
With regards to Henna Tattoo – Clients are always happy with the color as many times I heard from clients that in other salons the Henna color/stain is not that dark and most of the times if it’s on back or neck so it’s not visible. And some salons go only with stencils designs. As I do free hand too and what design they show and want I give them and they get really satisfied.
I never go for eyebrow tinting with chemicals as it is very harmful for skin and hair. I always go for henna eyebrows tinting as Henna is the herb and it tints your eyebrow and gives it a very natural brown shade. Plus, henna is very good for hair as it conditions your it.
For makeup … clients get very satisfied with their looks. It depends what look they want natural/ dramatic/party/bridal, I go according to their style and the look.
The best thing about the studio is this till to the date each and every client appreciated me for the studio set up. They love the setup as it is very neat and clean and very comfortable. And they always say that it doesn’t look like other threading places as it is very well decorated and calm. I guess it shows my event planning feature/quality 😛
In short, my strategy is to focus on service and the customer service. I always listen what client need and what will suit to him/her and accordingly I suggest him and then try my best to bring according to his requirement by providing him the comfort level.
I would like to be more determined and faster to grow my business.
