Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Greer.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
If you can teach, you can do anything! That’s the philosophy I adopted after six years of teaching elementary school and six years as a publisher’s sales rep. After a short training experience in a local art gallery, I opened my own business as a corporate art consultant – the best decision I’ve ever made. I love providing all types of prints, sculptures, paintings and graphics for the top companies in Southern California – medical offices, higher education campuses, financial institutes, and the Los Angeles headquarters of many major institutions.
All my clients are unique, of course, and my idea is to provide exactly what they need to enhance their corporate image, please their clients and create a beautiful work environment for their employees. Over thirty years later, I still enjoy working with my favorite clients and I have time to create my own artwork. I am working on a series of fiber sculptures for homes and offices; my art major is being satisfied. I’m also writing a bedtime storybook for grown-ups, based on Monty, my small bear, and relying on my minor in English. Life is very good!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The bumps in the road made the travel more interesting. Each month I started from scratch to earn my living. My goal was to earn a minimum of $1000/month, before taxes. My rent for a 2-bedroom apt. with backyard was $700, but I was able to manage without going broke and without living on any credit cards. I didn’t have any excuses for why I would not succeed. I taught ESL at night at Culver City Adult School and Collecting Art for Pleasure and Profit at Beverly Hills Adult School. I knitted sleeves for a clothing designer. I sewed ripped sleeping bags at A16. I taught a weekly knitting class at my home as well as beginning and advance knitting and anything else I could think of. I taught Creative Problem Solving at El Camino College, as a substitute teacher one semester, and I’d had plenty of real-life experiences to draw on.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sylvia Greer Artworks – what should we know?
As a corporate art specialist, I work with clients who are moving, opening new branches, expanding or remodeling. Southern California is the perfect location for growing businesses and many new opportunities. Our top corporations have hired us to provide art and signage for their offices throughout the USA and that’s been fun, too. My husband Andrew Nawrocky is a life-long graphic designer and he’s expanded into creating and producing logo signs, slogans, and huge murals for our clients.
We like to provide whatever a company requires and that makes us especially creative and original.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I credit our wonderfully supportive clients! Many have become friends over the decades of repeat business. I’m very thankful for our clients, my husband and the fact that I moved to Los Angeles in 1979.

Nice article. Sylvia also does yarn bombing in gardens… So you just might see one next time you visit a park! She is also a great designer for realtors to consult with, having redone her house recently.
