Meet Sydney Ellen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Ellen.

Sydney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was always around great music when I was younger and first learned piano at about five years old. It wasn’t until I was about 12 when I caught some Zeppelin playing on the radio. I remember being totally blown away by the sound of the guitar and how it would explode through the speakers as I was listening. I had never really taken a moment to listen to the guitar specifically until that moment.

So it was a cool realization for me, I knew at that moment that’s what I wanted to do from now on. I went straight to my parents and asked if I could learn how to play the electric guitar! Being the amazing parents they are, they got me a guitar and some lessons right away, and I’ve dedicated my life to the instrument ever since!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a fairly smooth road only because I was determined and excited to learn the guitar. I’ve been grateful for every guitar-related experience that has come my way. I’ve gotten to play some fun shows with artists I’ve looked up to, travel along the way, and release music that I’ve spent months working on to make perfect. It’s a different lifestyle, but I can’t imagine not playing guitar every day!

Challenges definitely happen along the way – I tend to be a perfectionist, so sometimes it’s tough to tell when the moment comes if I’m truly ‘ready’ for the task, whether it’s a big show, or on a video shoot. I like to think at the end of the day if I’ve tried the best I possibly could and practiced as much as I could then I’ll be happy with the outcome! Guitar is a lifelong road of learning, so there’s always room for improvement.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m mainly known as a guitarist and performer myself. People also know me as a songwriter, film composer, and music teacher! Some people might just know me as a girl who plays well-known guitar riffs on Instagram.

I’m also known sometimes for the guitars I play – The ESP Eclipse Silver Sparkle (The Sparkle Guitar) or my Gibson Les Paul Custom. I do love all things that sparkle… who doesn’t love sparkles? 🙂

The ESP has become a guitar that I’m recognized for, and it is one of the most comfortable guitars I own.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m very excited for the future! I’ll be announcing some new music for release in 2019 and can’t wait for everyone to be a part of it!
