Meet Sweeney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Sweeney.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a music artist began making music in 2018 – with my career beginning in my friend’s bedroom studio. I was able to book my first show a mere two weeks after I dropped my first song. I was born in Los Angeles but currently reside in Orange County. I spend majority of my time, however, in North Hollywood making music at my producer friend’s home studio.

Being a filmmaker and actor, I incorporate my artistic expressions in my music videos and visual content – as well as lyricism. At the beginning of my career, I quickly made friends in the music community I am currently in. These artists helped me grow myself as an artist. I am putting out a lot of dynamic pop music that has elements from multiple genres such as hip hop and indie.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is always hard being an underground artist in today’s music scene. In the earlier stages of my career, my image received a lot more attention than my music. People knew me more for my personality and who I was friends with than my actual music. Luckily, that has changed as of recently and my music has come to the forefront for my audience and peers.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an independent music artist. Currently, I make multi-genre infused pop music. I am very proud of my music being extremely diverse and different in comparison to a lot of today’s pop music. This is because I started out with a lot of different genres. When I started making music, I was making a lot of rap/hip-hop. My very first songs were cloud rap then I also experimented with a more main-stream auto-tune trap style as well as screamo rap. My slogan used to be “your local internet rapper,” but since then I have updated it to “your local popstar.” I continued to transition into bedroom pop/lofi pop until I settled into my current sound. This current sound can be broadly referred to as “pop,” but in reality, it is a combination of all of the styles I have experimented with in the past, giving me a truly unique sound that is true to me.

My upcoming single with Rxseboy entitled “Rewind” will be released on all streaming platforms on April 9th.

What were you like growing up?
I was always an outgoing kid. I played sports for the entirety of my youth. I still love meeting new people which has benefited me greatly in the music industry. I was always creative and loved experimenting with filmmaking. That led to me currently being a film major in college.
