Meet Svetlana Ghoukasyan of Salon True in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Svetlana Ghoukasyan.

Svetlana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was 13 years old when I first ran up to my mom and told her I want to be a hairstylist! She tried so hard to change my mind but began to see how much I loved it and was naturally talented with it. So as soon as I got my high school diploma I went straight to beauty school. Shortly after I graduated I started working as a front desk coordinator at a salon in Sherman Oaks, then became promoted to Assistant Manager at age 18. After a year and a half of staying there and watching so many talented artists do what I love, I decided I had to change my environment to somewhere that I can grow as a stylist. After searching for so long Elia at Salon true actually reached out to me. I brought in a model for a blowout and he hired me right away as his assistant and part time stylist on the floor. I began to work Sunday’s and build my clientele and within a year and a half I was a full time stylist! Two years after that I grew enough to rent my own station. I focused more on color and balayage and really working on creating my own technique for it, after watching so many other colorists. 8 years later I’m still at Salon True and absolutely love my work home! I still focus mostly on hair color and balayage, by making it unique to each client. I hate to do the same exact thing to two different people. I truly believe in bringing out my clients personality and lifestyle into play when giving them their finished look. Creating a look that’s easy to manage and wearable on a daily is absolutely key to my work!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always struggles no matter what industry you work in. I believe that as long as you’re passionate about your career you can overcome all obstacles thrown at you. I have made mistakes, but also been able to tackle each one with professionalism and staying true to myself and my art. Communication is key the key to everything!!! Cannot repeat this enough.

Salon True – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a balayage expert and colorist! I believe that the most important part of my job is that I build a relationship and trust with my clients. As they grow and change I love to match their hair to their current lifestyle. I love to listen to people’s stories and background which helps me understand what truly makes them happy and how I can bring that to life for them through their hair.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me isn’t being able to do celebrities hair or my work being displayed in a magazine. My clients are everything to me and the fact that they trust me with so much means the absolute world to me. Having a long standing relationship with a client, even just one is success to me.
