Meet Susannah Cotrone of Cotrone Pilates in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susannah Cotrone.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I spent most of my young life growing up in Pasadena, CA studying classical ballet, and was first introduced to the Pilates method of exercise in Houston, TX as a guest summer student at the Houston Ballet School at age fourteen. Pilates revealed itself to be the missing link I needed for me being able to take my ballet career to the next level. After dancing professionally with companies such as The Richmond Ballet, Ballet Omaha, and The City Ballet of Los Angeles, I became a young mother. Pilates was again the key for me to get back into shape, and was responsible for helping me regain the strength I needed to continue dancing. As my dance career became less of my main focus, I looked once again to Pilates and began teaching at Winsor Pilates in 1998, and earned a Romana’s Pilates certification in 2001. My husband and fellow Pilates instructor Sam Cotrone and I branched out on our own and opened Cotrone Pilates in 2013.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth doing involves a smooth journey, at least my life experience tells me so! I think if I look at the core of my career in fitness the main driving factor, regardless of the road blocks life puts forth, is that I love what I do. I love helping people transform their bodies and hearing how Pilates has changed people’s quality of life. Across the board- from young dancers to my older athletes I enjoy sharing the process and learning along the way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cotrone Pilates – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Cotrone Pilates is a Classical Pilates Studio that offers one on one Pilates instruction from a variety of instructors, and we also offer group classes. We are known for quality, classical Pilates instruction in a beautiful and contemporary space. We have a newly constructed dance studio adjacent to our Pilates studio with a sprung floor that offers barre, ballet, cardio dance, boxing and yoga. We have free parking in the lot in front of our building and our view of the Hollywood Hills from our second-floor location is breathtaking, we love to take it in everyday!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA, is that cliché to say? Of course, I despise the traffic and my heart is broken over our homeless situation but it is a city with a big heart, unique in its industry, and the people that call it home.
