Meet Susana Yee of Digital Everything Consulting in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susana Yee.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Susana. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I started by working in Business Development for startups in 1999. And loved everything about the internet and sold stuff on eBay and became a power seller. In 2007, I started a personal fashion blog when everyone I knew kept asking me where I bought my fashion, and I realized maybe other people besides my friends might be interested in what I had to say.

From the blog, I discovered the world of influencer marketing and started a social media agency in 2007. My team’s Guess Pinterest campaign went viral in 2012 and was mentioned as one of the top five Pinterest campaigns by Mashable.

In 2011, I was named a social media pioneer and was featured in the eHow 100 on Shift Showcases Real Women Moving from Information to Influence, Driving Change in Their Lives and the World, Influencing and Educating Other Women. This article was featured on Bloomberg and Business Wire.

Since then, I have worked with celebrities, start-ups, fashion brands, public companies, and more and will be launching The Influencer Marketing Roadmap this first part of 2019 which is an online course that will teach small businesses and people who want to learn how to work with influencers from the brand side. This is a video, workbook module, and mastermind group class that will be eight weeks and will guide the student from the beginning of a campaign to the end of one.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road, and any business is full of its ups and downs. There have been times when the economy changed, and companies that were my best companies would pull back their budgets, and we would lose a big account, and there were times when key employees who were working with large accounts would give no notice and leave the company. Business has its ebbs and flows, but I learned that you just have to keep moving and keep learning every day and changing as the business changes.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Digital Everything Consulting – what should we know?
My company is a consulting company that works with companies that need help with building out their influencer marketing and social media marketing strategies and processes.

I am most proud of the fact that I have been hired two or three times by the same head of companies when they move to head up other companies. I think that means that they like my work and I helped them achieve their goals at the last company.

I have been asked to come in to help some companies “fix” their brand identity through social media and content. My work has helped quite a few companies go from A or B rounds of financing to large rounds of funding.

I think what sets me apart is that I am incredibly agile when it comes to my work. I usually look at the company’s brand from a bird’s eye view and access their needs not just from social and influencer marketing, branding and content, but also from what they are doing in the digital marketing space.

The company’s marketing needs to be cohesive, or the customers won’t buy the product because they won’t understand what they are actually buying.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have been very lucky in my work life. Everyone I have met along the way have always been very kind and took an informational meeting with me if I asked for one. I always asked for an informational interview if I thought that I might be interested in a job or company.

I have had the opportunity to meet some incredible people along the way thanks to the internet. Twitter and Linkedin have been amazing resources for me.

My blog opened the door to many opportunities because in 2007 there were not many blogs and I wrote consistently and grew a following and brands reached out to me and I made contacts with brands through the blog that I would nurture into client contacts later when I opened my social media marketing firm.
