Meet Stone of Resident in Arts District DTLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stone.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Stone. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In this current thread of work I started in Entertainment /Music as a house party DJ in Kaiserslautern, Germany then Compton, Los Angeles, then a radio and club DJ in college in Ogden, Utah…went to Utah on a track scholarship,

After college tried to be a rapper, did some writing, not great at performing, so while working corporate jobs as a paralegal, and later an HR and PR manager in the corporate world, I took classes at the Groundlings to get over stage fright (made it to Sunday company with some currently notable alums) found myself booking TV and Films gigs…while working and moonlighting from my HR Director gig at a Music Publishing company on Sunset… (I have a fun Bruno Mars story)… as a doorman at Bar Lubitch; Then a bar manager, then a GM at El Carmen (10 plus years with the company Committed Inc. / Sean & Jared)

Took a leap of faith and now here at Resident…Director of Operations, Improving and our business processes, evolving moral and best practices and taking care of our guest. (aaaaaaand still auditioning and booking, the most recent Jimmy Kimmel & SWAT this year)

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ebs and Flows…. Just when I think it’s great, it not, and when I think it’s gonna suck, a light shines at the end of the tunnel and I keep it movin’.

Not a smooth road, but I’ve learned to navigate better, and guide those with me along the way to do the same here at work and in their lives.

Resident – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Resident is an Entertainment / Music venue. Since it’s inception it has been entrepreneurial and unique, especially in the upcoming Arts District. It’s owners Tim & Bridgette have been staples in the community for many years…they’re legends. They and their partners Paul Oberman and Jacek Ostoya had a vision that they implemented.

As many of us in business know, there are cycles of the business. Once the owners starting leaving the entrepreneurial stages, it was time to bring “order to the court” but hold on to the fun, which is what I’ve been groomed through experience and training to do, and have done so successfully everywhere I’ve worked (humbly I say)

At Resident, we provide a wonderful oasis in the heart of the arts district, for guest to hang out with friends, enjoy food, cocktails, good vibes and a variety of diverse entertainments. There is no other set up like our in LA.

This is our Art.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The most recent so far…It all happened in one day.

I received the monthly P&L from our accountant and was able to smile because or efforts over the past few months reflected,

I was able to transmit a payroll remotely from my phone while on my first day on set shooting an episode as a guest star on a network show

and at the end of that day, I received a call …out of the blue… and booked a summer residency for a genre I’d been looking to bring to the venue.

The day was a good day.
