Meet Steven Russell Black

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Russell Black.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in the middle of rural Ohio. Hard work and craftsmanship where instilled in my art making from a young age.

Beautifully creepy is my muse and I love every opportunity to share it with the world.

Please tell us about your art.
I make visions of heartbroken creepy things that are beautifully crafted.

Anyone can paint a beautiful woman and have the reaction from a crowd of “beautiful”, but if I can paint a severed head and your reaction is the same “beautiful” then I’ve won.

Finding beauty in unexpected dark places means there’s a chance that the most undesirable could still be loved.

Look upon my twisted beauties and love them.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Build a small group in your area of like-minded artists and have each other’s backs on upcoming shows, events, conventions, and making each others goals a reality.

It takes sticking to it but it’s worth it.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I show around L.A. in several galleries including:
Copro Gallery, Dark Art Emplorium and twice a year at Monsterpalooza and Son of Monsterpalooza.
