Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Gonzalez and Pedro Medina.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Steve and Pedro. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hi my name is Steve Gonzalez, I am a barber who started my barber career like most great barbers at home with a target eagle trimmer. My first client before I went to barber school and before I knew I had skills was my older brother Paul Gonzalez. Paul let me practice on him for many years in junior high then high school. Soon all my friends from school were coming to my house for cuts. Later on, when I graduated from school barber school I worked in the south bay in a local barbershop. Then I was recruited by one of the biggest companies who employs barbers. The Art of Shaving in Century City who’s owned by P&G I worked there for one year and was quick promoted as the company’s barber trainer. After 9 years with the company, I joined one of my good friends Pedro who’s a top-notch celebrity barber for Robert Downey Jr., Bruce Willis, and Rob Kardashian and many more. We looked around everywhere and finally found a corner location who we love on the corner of Warnall St. and Santa Monica 10283 Santa Monica Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90067 this location is directly across the street from the newly renovated Westfield mall. We plan to make Shave and Co. Barbershop your home! We always want the best for our clients. The best customer service to go along with our haircut, shaves and beard trims. In a fun cool space in Los Angeles.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This is our dream to have our own beautiful barber shop. But it has not been easy after the mall in Century City where I worked for 9 years closed down unexpectedly with hardly any notices from The Art of Shaving in January 2015. I had to quickly find a place where I can cut all my 375 loyal clients because I had to put food in the table for my kids and a roof over their heads and I also didn’t want to lose my clients. So I rented and renovated a 150-sq. foot studio nearby and cut and shaved them all for a whole year till I saved and enough money to open a bigger and comfortable 1100 sq. foot space.

We were thought by the best, over the course of 12 years we have shaved thousands of people from around the world, they come to us, they find us no matter where we are at they find us. We have the Royal family’s coming to us for their perfect beard line ups and the fine laser beard shape ups. We specialize in any ripe of haircuts, fades, scissor cuts, and our famous Royal King Shave is a 45-minute hot towel old school straight razor shave with aroma therapy mask. We are also known for being a barber owner barbershop. We are the business!
What were you like growing up?
Pedro and I both grew up in the south bay city of Lawndale and Inglewood California. We love the Lakers, LA galaxy, Dodgers. We grew up playing sports but we both are artist we can draw on paper maybe that’s why we are good at what we do… cause whatever we see we can draw.
