Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I like cake and long naps on the couch. Why Wong you ask? It’s my middle name… which I hid forever until now! I just said embrace your Asian-ness (is that a word?).
I have been shooting people (with my camera) for over 10 years and I have had the privilege and honor to shoot the most wonderful amazing clients and their beautiful engagements, weddings, maternity and family photos! I have always taken photos of people, families, friends, myself (before selfies were a thing) and thought someone should pay me for this… capturing memories to look back on later was always special to me since I can remember. My Dad always made it a point to take a photo or video clips of me and my sister when we were kids so we can laugh at ourselves later in life. As an adult, I know why that was important now and can have an impact on you and your family members. I like to post teasers for my clients… because mostly, I’m impatient and want you to see how fabulous you rocked the day. I like my relationships with my clients to be more like a friendship.
I married my meant to be partner Mike in Hawaii and have 2 fur babies that like to tackle you and fart. In this union, I also inherited 3 crazy stepchildren who make us, the family we are! In my spare time, I paint acrylic paintings on canvas, watch Friends and sing karaoke (I’m a Filipino, what do you want from me!) 🙂
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I decided after 7 years, to take a risk and re-brand an already successful company, as my previous brand no longer represented me. The struggle of being one of thousands of photographers in Southern California is a challenge in itself alone. How will I stand out amongst everyone else?
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Stephy Wong Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in portrait and wedding photography. I’ve dabbled in everything other categories, but decided these are the ones I wanted to put my all into. I am proud of the fact that when potential clients contact me whether they call or they email, they recognize that I’m not like everyone else. I constantly get people who will start laughing as soon as they voicemail picks up (you should call it and find out what they’re laughing about) or the fact that I tell it like it is on my site. That’s who I am, what I want, what I’ll give you, take it or leave it. I’m not for everyone and I’m ok with that.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to keep shooting memories for weddings until I’m too old to walk. At this time, I have no big changes as I’m still getting adjusted to my new brand. I have been traveling quite a bit for weddings which is exciting. Work and vacation in one? Yes! Tax write off.
