Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Silver.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my journey after high school working as a caricature artist at Sea World in San Diego. After that, I worked at several theme parks around the country and all this experience became my training ground and schooling. My next phase was getting hired by the clothing company NO FEAR and while there, I submitted my portfolio to Warner Bros. animation and was hired on the show Histeria back in 1997. From there, I went on to Disney, Nickelodeon and Sony feature animation where I had the opportunity to design Clerks the animated series, Kim Possible and Danny Phantom. I currently work from home as a freelancer designing characters for studios, I contribute art to MAD Magazine and I have a school, the Silver Drawing Academy and do workshops all over the world.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can’t say that it was a smooth road and I am thankful for that. I think if anything is too easy and smooth, it may not have challenged me and led me to take chances and risks. I would say that everything I have set my mind out to do, one way or another, I arrived at my destination.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Silvertoons, INC – what should we know?
I operate a cartoon studio Silvertoons.com. I provide designs for any company interested in developing an intellectual property. What I do is provide the Character Designs for many projects or products. It may be for Mascots, commercials, televison or feature films. I am proud of the fact that a lot of the cartoons I have designed are kids childhoods.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Along the journey of working with many artists, directors and clients. They all have been of tremendous value. My parents worked as real estate agents and through that, I observed their hard work and dedication, this really helped me understand the business end and how to work with clients.
