Meet Stephanie Tejada of Upland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Tejada

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the entertainment industry as a model. People were noticing me & I was recruited from my job at hooters to audition to be a gogo dancer. I’ve always loved dancing so I ended up dancing for clubs, concerts, festivals, music videos for over 10 years. In the middle of all that I’ve always been a goof & would create sketches & characters on social media, I’m talking myspace & vine days, eww I’m showing my age. One of my videos went viral when Kevin Hart shared it. This lead me to being cast on the iconic reality show “Bad girls club” the social disruption season which was based on social media personalities . The show highlighted me as comedian and even introduced me to the cast in a prank , we also had a roast battle. After my tv debut, I wanted to strike while the iron was hot, & so I moved to California and became a standup comedian. Then the pandemic happened & I joined only fans to monetize all of comedy & I started creating series, like “A sociopath & A psychopath” a spoof talk show hosted by characters Ratchetta & Angie played by Jaclyn Passaro & I , “The Tias” an award winning mockumentary & much more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
God NO! lol . It’s tough on most days because I really am a 1 woman show . I film, edit, write & act in all of my projects. It’s a blessing & a curse. Sometimes you see people getting the opportunities you have to create for yourself & that can be hard to deal with you know ” the comparison trap” . Also the standup hustle can be very draining, both emotionally & financially.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a comedian in every way. I create series, talk shows, podcast ,characters sketches , parodies & sometimes music. I think my comedy is very bold & unapologetic. I’m known for outrageous punchlines & trolling trolls. What truly sets me apart is not catering to the sensitivity of the crowd. I am inspired by some of the most outrageous comics & characters of all time. Im just following their lead.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Feeling good about what i put out. If i don’t think its funny or good, you wont see it. You should look at your works & feel proud.
