Meet Stephani Clymer of Shop Common Thread in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephani Clymer.

Shop Common Thread opened in 2006 as a maternity boutique called Xpecting. The shop evolved over the years and quickly became the one stop shop for busy moms in the coastal Orange County community. After many years of women telling them their name is misleading they are excited to announce Shop Common Thread! The same selection, the same service and the same shop girls.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? This is retail and we lived through the 2008 roller coaster, so no definitely not smooth sailing. However, we have always been willing to adapt and change, which I believe is the reason we are still standing, busier than ever, 12 years later.

That and the fact that we truly have the most amazing and loyal clientele who have become friends over the years.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Shop Common Thread story. Tell us more about the business. I am a mom of three who understands every mom’s love for clothes and lack of time.

We believe is service first and that looks a bit different for busy moms! We offer a free delivery service – http://shopcommonthread.com/delivery-services/, we have an active Instagram account @shopcommonthreadOC where our clients often comment and shop from the carpool line, we ship for free and encourage drive by service where we run the items out to our client’s cars.

We also have the perfect selection of baby and girlfriend gifts complete with the cards to go with and complimentary gift wrap.

We are proud that moms feel comfortable calling ahead for us to shop for them or coming in with their baby and sitting down to nurse. We are part of such an awesome community and love every second of helping dress the women here.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business? The luckiest things that ever happened to me are: 1. I have a mom who showed me through example incredible work ethic. She then believed in my business and was willing to cosign my Small Business Loan back in 2005. 2. My husband loves this roller coaster as much as I do and never tires of my crazy ideas or need to spend just one more hour at the shop. 3. I met Cindy, my store manager, or as I like to say partner in crime the year I opened. We have grown up together…her, me, the business and I would not be the store I am today without her!

Unlucky – well the economy tanked about one year after I opened. However, in hindsight this pushed me to be adaptable and I have to say that when people hear we survived those years it seems to give us a little more credibility in their minds.
