Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie LaHart.
Stefanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The music industry drew me to Los Angeles right out of college. I wanted to be a part of it although I didn’t know in which way. I was always attracted to the energy of creative types and there is plenty of that in music. My first job here was in advertising which somehow opened a door for me to become a rock n roll journalist for a major national publication. I loved interviewing bands and finding out the story behind the music. I am fascinated with storytelling.
This same job opened a door for me to get into web design which I ended up working in for many years. As a self-taught web designer and programmer, I was drawn to projects that let me create new pathways and new worlds. To me, the internet has always been a place to create worlds and formulate realities. I had only one corporate design job before deciding to launch my own boutique style agency. This allowed me to seek more creative projects and manage my time so I was able to skip the 9 to 5 grind and pursue my outdoor adventures and physical fitness training. I love running, hiking and camping. I have run 20 marathons over the last 8 years in the process.
I started seeing the shift from custom web design to a more automated and templated approach some years ago. I was getting more and more requests not for the actual design of the site but more on the marketing and SEO side. My new clients needed help getting the word out about their products and services more than anything else. So I pivoted my business from web design to online marketing and specifically social media marketing. This proved to be the perfect skills blend of my technical know-how combined with my storytelling power.
At Boomtown Marketing, I am able to truly serve the needs of my favorite customers – the passionate professionals and creative entrepreneurs. I help these businesses and entrepreneurs find their ideal customers through online conversations and then convert them into real-world clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Running your own business is never a smooth road but if you are able to accept and even welcome the hurdles then I have found it makes the trip worth the travel. I never had any kind of trouble with the business admin side. It is in fact very easy to set up your own business, figure out the permits and taxes and get your accounting in order. For me, the challenge has been keeping up with how fast social media and marketing changes and how to figure out the packaging of services to create steady income growth. It is, for this reason, I hired a business coach and joined a mentorship when I decided to launch Boomtown Marketing. I wanted to pivot quickly so I found a business program in my space that taught me how to launch services and programs plus build my personal brand.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Boomtown Marketing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
