Meet Stacy Solodkin of Stacy Solodkin Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Solodkin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It’s hard to tell you exactly what my story is after just surviving stage 3 ovarian cancer less than 2 months ago. I’m still trying to figure out what my new story is! I have always been creative in some form since I was tiny. I got a bit sidetracked for the last 20 years owning a thriving boutique talent agency here in LA. My art definitely took a backseat and commissions were regulated to weekends. After my diagnosis October 30th, 2017 I stopped working and during this healing journey, my art exploded out of me. Not just painting but writing… writing about my journey and encouraging people to be their own health advocate.

When I went to the ER back in October I looked fine I was just having some pains but I KNEW something was wrong. So when the doctors tried to send me home with pills for constipation I stood my ground. Even after the second and third doctor said there was probably nothing serious wrong-probably just constipation or a pulled muscle I just kept imploring them to run tests. 12 hours later in walks the doctor. She closes the door -which is never a good sign- and says “I’m so sorry. You have cancer and it’s everywhere “ shocking isn’t really the right word. Your life stops when you hear those words. And so I set out to find all the amazing alternative doctors and alternative treatments I could find.

Thank goodness I live in Los Angeles bc we are the epicenter for healing. So along with surgery and chemo, I became a huge advocate for finding and turning others on to natural ways to heal. I’m no expert but I have a ton of knowledge now which I’m blogging about. In fact, I did videos before during and after chemo. But creatively being sick gave me permission to just paint. I started using pigments I had never tried before and all of a sudden people started buying prints of my new works! Art is my heart and soul… and so now that I have walked thru the fire and I got the “ no evidence of disease” from my doctor I am left with the decision of what direction to take my story.

I’m back working at my business which thrives with or without me (but definitely wants me back!) but my heart keeps pounding at me reminding me that there is another path… with clearly not as much money or funding… but something that will make my heart sing with joy. So my story at the moment is a crossroad… a decision of whether to trust and let go of security and comfort in order to fly creatively by the seat of my pants and trust I will land somewhere soft. I have no idea if I answered this question correctly!!!!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Previously in my business-being a female biz owner in a male-dominated marketplace.

Currently-allowing myself to take a leap of faith into my art. trusting that as a business minded person I will always be able to take care of myself. Knowing that if my life ended abruptly and I didn’t take this risk I would regret it at the end.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Stacy Solodkin Art – what should we know?
My art: I am a fluid artist. Most people look at my work and say it’s sensual… very female… round abstract shapes.

The reference I get the most is Georgia Okeefe which blows my mind! I have worked with resin, encaustics and now with alcohol inks. I am about to transition into mixing my inks with acrylics onto much larger wood panels. I am most proud and amazed that through all of my challenges my art has been a thru line and a lifeline.

My agency: I am so proud that I started in someone’s living room with a pager and a fax machine. I started from literally nothing and 20 years later I have a thriving business. It still amazes me! What sets us apart is that we are boutique and we care about our clients.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel as though I am always looking to learn and expand… to grow… as an artist and as a human. I never see myself as done but a constant work in progress. For me there is no place for ego… there is always something I can learn from everyone.
