Meet South Bay Makeup Artist: Kelly Shew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Shew.

Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love for makeup was created by my mom who was a professional belly dancer and I would see pictures of her with all the beautiful stage makeup. She would always let me wear a little blush, or lipstick when I was a young for fun. And the fascination began.

I had a lot of friends in the industry and I would work on their photoshoots, films, just to be involved. Slowly I networked and took all my free time working on all kinds of projects. Then I started working in the fashion industry, advertisement, commercial, celebrity, etc.. And the rest is history.

Has it been a smooth road?
There is always obstacles when you are working in the world of creatives. The work can be inconsistent, and sometimes there are politics that can make you get insecure about your work if you let it… But I always do my best on every job I do and know that everything will work out exactly the way it’s meant to work out…

Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was always very shy, but I also had a very direct approach with things. If I was interested or wanted something, nothing could keep me from it…

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Too many to list! I had the best childhood!

What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to continue to be inspired, inspire others, make an impact and stay creative! and know that “I did my best” at the end of every day.
