Meet South Bay Hair stylist: Danielle June

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle June.

Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Against my parents wishes (they wanted me to work in an office) Started in late 80s, worked as an assistant for 2 years and then struck out to build my career. I have always been obsessed with fashion especially vintage from the 40s 50s and 60s. My styling is heavily influenced by this. I specialize in styling and I do a ton of photo shoots and session work. Fast forward to today (25 years later) and I am currently working at The Harlot Salon in Venice Beach and working on my entry for the Sebastian’s What’s Next Awards and NAHA. 2017.. My credits include countless hot rod/pinup magazine covers, commercials, music videos and I have been all around the world styling weddings for countless happy brides.!!

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road, I opened a salon in the late 90s with a few friends of mine and it was a difficult partnership and I ended up leaving the space and moving on. What I didn’t know at the time was, making that move, it opened up so many opportunities that couldn’t have happened if I were still a part of that salon. It didn’t feel like it at the time, but I had made the best decision of my life to leave the salon I helped build.

Is there some part of you work that is particularly difficult?
Well, I live in Los Angeles and although my salon is only 19 miles away from my home, it takes at least one hour to get to and from. Traffic is a necessary evil sometimes!

What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
Success for me is being able to make someone feel good about themselves. If they are smiling after a few hours in my chair, then the world is right into eyes.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to educate the younger stylists and to travel more. Hopefully I can integrate my teachings with travel. That would be the ultimate for me!!!!

I am thrilled to see this talent get the credit that she so well deserves. I have worked with Danielle on several occasions. Her talent is obvious, but it is her positive energy and disposition that makes every project that she is involved in a success.
