Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonika Vaid.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Music has always been one of my passions. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, but growing up I was too shy and never wanted to sing in front of anyone. My family and a small group of friends would always encourage me to sing and eventually, my friends signed me up for the school talent show. I remember being so nervous and running out of the room after the performance. I ended up winning the show, and after performing in front of my entire school, I fell in love with it.
Flash forward to my college years and a producer from American Idol reached out and asked me to come in for an audition. My experience on American Idol changed my life and showed me that a career in music was absolutely a possibility for me. After the show, I moved from Boston to LA, and have been pursuing music ever since. I am so grateful for my time on the show.
Has it been a smooth road?
The past few years have definitely been a roller coaster of a journey. I think that following your dreams will always come with certain setbacks and challenges along the way. For me, it’s been important to tackle them head-on and not let them discourage me. I’m fortunate that I have a loving family and a great group of friends that believe in me and encourage me, even when it’s hard for me to believe in myself.
One of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make was to put college on hold to participate in American Idol. It paid off in the end and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer/songwriter from Boston, MA and I currently live in Los Angeles. I just released my debut single “Spend It On You”, and I’m getting ready to release more music this year.
I was so excited to finally release music for my fans this year, but with the effects of COVID-19, I haven’t been able to see my producers and writers. I’ve been using the time to teach myself how to record and produce music. It’s been really fun to learn something new and stay creative.
I’m so excited to share new music with you very soon!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is such a great place to pursue anything in the entertainment industry. Moving here from Boston was extremely intimidating but also one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
I am so grateful for this city and the opportunities that it has presented me. The friends I’ve made out here have impacted my life greatly and I am so excited to continue to make memories and music with them.
