Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonig Guerboian.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sonig. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After I received my degree in cosmetology, I began my work as an assistant in a hair salon in Beverly Hills. After gaining great experience in working in multiple salons as a young assistant and behind chairs as a hair stylist. I ventured into the bison realm by opening my own salon. For over 20 years Scarsdale for Hair salon served the great people of Los Angeles. It was one of the biggest and most successful hair salons on the west side of Southern California. With over 45 employees, I ran the show as both the owner and as a hair stylist. In 1990 I had my first only child. Once I became a mother and caretaker my priorities in life changed. I still went to own my salon for another 11 years. But after 20 years as a salon owner, it was time for me to hang it up. So, I decided to sell Scarsdale in 2001, to spend more time with my family. However, I continued to pursue my dreams as being the best hair stylist I can be. I have worked in many hair salons during the past 15 years. From Richard Williams to Unity Studio, I have worked all over the greater Brentwood area. Fast forward to 2017, I am now entering my fourth year at Sola Salon Studios. Although I technically have a landlord, I once again am the proud owner of a hair salon. This time though it is a little cozy studio called Salon Sonig. And I have to say it is fabulous. (If you know Sonig then you know fabulous is her favorite word) Sola has been wonderful to me and my clientele. It is like one big salon with 20 different personalized hair, makeup, facials and nail salons all in one fabulous place to be. I have worked all over the hair salon industry map. I have to say that Sola has been the best experience so far that I have encountered. And believe me when I say this, I know a thing or two about working in hair salons. I guarantee you will truly enjoy your time at Salon Sonig.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a hair salon definitely had its challenges. There were many bumps along the way, but I managed to get through it unscathed. I have to say one thing that truly matters in this industry is loyalty. If you are loyal to your employees, coworkers and most especially your clients. Then they will come on the journey with you no matter where it takes you. I have been in this business a long time and my reputation matters to me the utmost. I am proud to say even through all the challenges and rough patches my reputation is still impeccable. And that is something I am truly proud of to this day.
Please tell us about Salon Sonig.
I am a full-service hair stylist. From blowouts to haircuts to Brazilian Blowouts. I have mastered my craft over the years and I am here to serve you and all your hairstyle needs. I am known for three things, incredible service, a caring, and understanding attitude and most importantly getting the job done the way the client wants it done. I am loyal to my clients and they are loyal to me. Ask any of them and they tell you I am reliable, dependable and always there for them whenever they need. Your hair is your everything, and it is my job to make sure you are at your very best no matter what the occasion. I am proud of my business because it is organic. What I mean by that is I have achieved everything in this world by hard work. It is exhausting but also very gratifying knowing that I have accomplished with a pair of hands and an open mind. Ask anyone that has ever worked with me about how it is working with Sonig. They will all tell that she brings smiles to our faces and joy to our lives. What sets apart from others is nothing special. This is how I was raised, to do unto others how you would want others to do to you. I always what you put into this world will come back to you. I have had many struggles, but I know that if I do things the right way everything will be taken care of and I will be okay.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My family is of Armenian descent and we have been placed all over the world. I grew up in Egypt as a little girl and my fondest memories of childhood would have to be the days my mother would get me ready for school. Followed by my father walking me to school while holding my hand. My father passed away when I was young, and it was then my mother decided to take her children to America. So, growing up and remembering the times as a child being with my entire family and the memories of my father were truly what I was most fond of.
