However, Skylar’s narrative takes an unexpected turn as she embarks on a new adventure in the world of real estate, setting the stage for a new chapter in her life.
Skylar Dawn a passionate Realtor whose journey has taken her from the sun-soaked landscapes of Southern California to the enchanting vistas of the American Southwest. Raised in the heart of Southern California’s vibrant culture and also raised in the beauty of Southern Utah, Skylar developed an abiding love for the diverse tapestry of landscapes. This profound appreciation for exploration would go on to shape her life in ways she could never have foreseen.
Before her foray into real estate, Skylar was at the helm of a thriving production studio in the entertainment industry. Her impressive resume boasts collaborations with A-list celebrities and major players in the movie and television world. Astonishingly, Skylar was making her mark in the entertainment realm even before turning 20, a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence.
Skylar’s achievements transcended borders, earning her nominations and winning an international business award. She also received an exclusive dinner invitation with European President Alar Karis of Estonia. These experiences underscored the global reach of her talents and the profound impact of her work. In addition, Skylar’s innovative marketing strategies garnered attention from various publications, solidifying her reputation as a trailblazer in the entertainment industry.
Yet, Skylar’s journey took an unexpected turn when she faced challenges and circumstances beyond her control. This resulted in the untimely closure of Tiger Lab Studios in the winter of 2022, just a week before Christmas. Although Skylar did not own the building housing her studio, which played a factor in the closure of the studio, this experience ignited a fierce determination to someday possess a similar establishment.
“After what happened to the studio, after losing almost everything I worked for over ten years due to circumstances beyond my control, I told myself this would never happen to me again. It baffled and shocked me because I was in a long-term contract with Viacom CBS for the studio. I thought the studio was finally going to reach the success point I had worked so long for, and then two months after our contract ended, I was being told I was forced to close the studio. I tried everything I could and called everyone I knew to try to keep it open. My whole world came crashing down at that point, and I just couldn’t continue. I understood that this was not for me anymore. It was time for me to move on to something new. Unfortunately, during that time in LA, many studios were closing, and they continued to close. What happened to me lit a fire inside me to pursue real estate even more. I didn’t see the closure of the studio as a failure. I saw it as a learning experience and an opportunity to pick up the pieces and come back stronger,” Skylar says. “I mean, one day I would like to own my own buildings and properties; that’s always been the goal. I know it will happen, and I know that the more I learn and grow in real estate, the more that will become a reality.”
In the face of adversity, Skylar made a courageous decision. Rather than returning to the familiar terrain of the entertainment industry, she embarked on a new path—one that resonated with her innate entrepreneurial spirit: real estate. Skylar’s interest in real estate had always simmered beneath the surface, and the closure of her beloved studio became the catalyst for this transformation.
She took a hiatus from the public eye and devoted herself to an intensive education in real estate. Months spent in real estate school, a brief few months in the world of home mortgages to gain a deeper understanding, and navigating the labyrinth of paperwork culminated in her triumphant success in passing the notoriously challenging California Real Estate Salesperson Exam on her first attempt. This remarkable feat, in an environment where the pass rate dwindled to a mere 45% in the second quarter of 2022, showcased her unwavering commitment to mastering her craft.
Skylar said, “One thing I know for a fact is that if you want to learn and be successful in something, you have to completely immerse yourself in the craft and learn everything and every subject about it. The more knowledge you gain on the new craft, you will go further than you’ve ever imagined.
As for the future of Tiger Lab Studio, Skylar’s plans remain a source of intrigue. While there are no immediate blueprints for a revival, hints suggest that the saga may continue, but not in the bustling heart of Los Angeles.
“Right now, I want to focus on my real estate career and see how far it will take me. I do have plans for the studio. It is not gone for good. I’ll bring it back maybe one day, just not now. It will be different,” Skylar says.
For now, Skylar is fully engrossed in her burgeoning real estate career, eager to explore the uncharted territories it holds. With her unyielding spirit and unwavering dedication, Skylar’s journey is far from over.
“All the doors might’ve closed on me, but I am coming back to buy the building,” says Skylar. This unwavering determination sets the stage for the next thrilling chapter in her remarkable odyssey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Skylar shares her reflections: “I mean, there were a lot of struggles along the way. The first few months of 2023 were very hard for me emotionally. I was not only going through the loss of the studio but also grieving a loved one who passed in December. This is when you find your true inner strength. In situations like this, you only have two options: to sink or swim. I chose to swim. People’s true colors also start to emerge, including those of family, friends, and people you’ve worked with. You see who is actually there for you and someone’s true intentions toward you. I have a very encouraging support system around me that has helped me get to where I am now. I am very thankful for the people I currently have in my life.
I understand that being a Realtor is in a new industry compared to what I used to do, and it takes time to learn something new. But I am willing to take my time, learn, and grow in the realm of real estate.
Sometimes, things happen out of your control, and sometimes you don’t understand why they are happening at that moment. However, you always end up where you are meant to be, and if you’re not pushed out of your comfort zone, you will never know what growth and success are.
I am very excited about my career in real estate, and I am excited to see how far it will take me.”
