Meet Simone C. Williams of Exquisite Restraint Corsets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone C. Williams.

Exquisite Restraint Corsets employed a DIY ethic in the pre-Etsy days. Helmed by owner and designer, Simone, www.exquisiterestraint.com went live on the web in 2001 with the goal of providing durable corsets made with high-quality materials and a unique high-fashion look that defied the traditional corset fetish model.

Early on clients included fashion-forward individuals, transwomen, Goths, Vampires, the Fetish scene, the Hot Rod scene, Rockers, while always advocating body positivity. We are one of the few companies in Los Angeles providing custom fittings.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We don’t manufacture, so each corset is one of a kind, which means we do not have a line that has been picked up by lingerie stores.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m most proud that I was part of the older wave of “crafters” and artisans in the pre-Etsy days: people who knew they had something unique to offer and the internet was going to be the way to attract attention.

I’m also most proud that we provide custom fittings for all bodies. We have never targeted our marketing to one community or sub-culture. What matters is that the client is happy and loves the way they look in an Exquisite Restraint corset.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Communication and customer service while providing a quality product. Corsets can be an intimate item, whether you wear them as a foundation garment under your clothing, or on top of your clothing as a fashion statement.

I have measured and made corsets for 100’s of people, and I have worked hard to conduct myself with kindness and sensitivity while taking a client’s measurements and creating this intimate garment for them.
