Today we’d like to introduce you to Simon Brauner.
Simon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Mexico City. After high school, I lived in Israel, doing volunteer work for a bit. Then came to Los Angeles to study at Loyola Marymount University, where I majored in Business Entrepreneurship.
During and after college, I was part of a training program that prepares candidates for Special Operations training pipelines. I attempted to enlist with different branches of the U.S military, but unfortunately, I was rejected due to previous sports injuries. This setback forced me to seek a new path, wherein I took an office job at a financial advisory firm, but soon realized a traditional office job was not for me. I wanted to build something of my own.
Real estate felt like the right fit. I got my real estate license and started working with a brokerage. This soon evolved into obtaining a second license, as a general contractor, and branching out to start my own company. More than just the standard house hunting process, with Brauner Construction & Realty, I’m able to offer clients an end-to-end experience that includes sales, remodels and repairs.
It took patience, hard work, a little bit of luck and a lot of mistakes. But I forged my own path, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting your own company is never a smooth road. I left the security of my office job to get started as a real estate agent. But found working with home buyers could be a bit frustrating because finding that perfect home often means settling for something less than perfect.
Luckily, my uncle has his own construction company in Florida, where his business is focused on flipping properties. He told me to come work for him and learn everything I can about remodeling homes. So I moved across the country to Florida and spent six months sleeping on a cot while absorbing everything I could – from swinging a hammer to pricing out a project.
That experience opened my eyes to the value I can bring my clients. With the knowledge of how homes are built, I can recognize a good buy, a good remodels, and manage every phase of the process. Upon returning to California, I got my contractor’s license and started my own business. Brauner Construction & Realty was born.
I always believed real estate was the smart move for me. But in combining my experience as a realtor with my passion for construction, I truly found my calling.
