Meet SIMJI

Today we’d like to introduce you to SIMJI.

SIMJI

Hi SIMJI, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was scrolling on Instagram during the pandemic when I came across tufted rugs. I was really intrigued because I didn’t even think that rugs could be anything more than the circle or rectangle that we are all familiar with. Since content creation is my passion, I researched the content side of this niche and saw that most people were making tutorial videos or trying to sell their audience rugs or supplies. I knew I had to fill this gap and create entertainment-based content revolving around rug making and create videos that all types of people could enjoy regardless of their interest in rugs or art. Investing all my savings, I purchased materials in bulk and dedicated 16-hour days to developing my channel and honing my craft. I knew that I was going to hold my breath do whatever it took make this channel a success. People often think it’s the other way around, but I learned how to make rugs in order to do this content. I posted my first video before my rug-making skills were any good because I knew it was more important to start. That first video unexpectedly soared in popularity on TikTok overnight, compelling me to increase my content output. However, after achieving that milestone, stopping didn’t feel right, so I continued at that pace for over two years. While I now post across all major platforms, TikTok was where I first gained traction.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were mental challenges along the way, even now! We are all human, after all. Maybe I’d feel insecure about my content, deal with burnout, struggle with not make a living, etc. Whatever it was, I always tried to see things in perspective and tell myself that I don’t matter and none of it matters. Not in any negative way, of course! But I remind myself of our universe that is so big beyond my comprehension, of all the people who lived before me and who will live after me, of how I don’t even remember my “5-star problem” from 6 months prior, and that my current “5-star problem” will also one day not be a problem anymore. There is a video that shows how small we are and how big the universe is that always helps me put things into perspective.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make entertainment-based content revolving around rug making. It’s really hard, to sum up what I am “known for” because I had so many content styles or series during the last few years, but I am currently known for trading rugs with companies and making rugs for characters and other creators. Even though I make rugs in my content, I am a content artist at heart. Content IS my passion. The topic could have been anything: mouse training, challenges, pranks. It just happened to be rugs. I saw the vision and took the opportunity. I think what sets me apart at the end of the day is my willingness to hold my breath and do whatever it takes to accomplish what I set out to do.

I’m so proud of the community we’ve built. My audience is so amazing, funny, supportive, and creative!!!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Educating myself and learning from Alex & Leila Hormozi, Chris Do, and Gary Vee’s content that they share on social media has been instrumental in my journey as a content creator. Each of them taught me and pushed me in their own way, and I have no idea where my mind would be if I hadn’t been exposed to them.
