Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Girard.
Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career as a photographer in New York City shooting up & coming Actors, Models, and Talent. My work quickly started to get attention and I had an opportunity to come to LA and I have been here almost 10 years. I have been awarded LA’s favorite photographer by Backstage magazine for the last 3 years in a row for my work photographing Actors. My Fashion, Editorial & Portrait work has taken me everywhere from LA to Brazil, Paris, and New York to name a few. Being a photographer in the entertainment capitol of the world you get to photograph the most interesting people from Producers to Actors, Celebrities, and Models. I also just came back from shooting New York Fashion week. This year we are focusing a lot of celebrity portrait & editorial. It’s really wonderful because the people I photograph all have such interesting stories and lives, and I get to retell a bit of it in my photographs.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been an amazing journey. I don’t think “smooth” is the road for any photographer but I have been very fortunate with the response for my work. The real struggle comes from within. I think I am harder on myself than anyone. I think I am constantly trying to find new inspiration to make something interesting & honest with my own vision.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
I think the hardest part of my job is finding the work/ life balance. My job is 24/7. Balancing being a business owner, artist, wife & mother is the biggest challenge. All of those hats I wear are integrated with each other. My eye is that of a photographer , so it is not something I can just turn off, but knowing when it is time to just focus on my family is something I feel is very important.
What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
To me, success in my field is being respected by the people within my industry and those I love. As an artist, we are constantly growing and creating, and I don’t think I will ever be 100% satisfied, but working with others to create a finished product that myself and the client is happy with is the goal. Putting a piece of myself and my vision in each image along with the vision of the client is something I strive for. When that is achieved then I consider that a successful shoot!
What are your plans for the future?
There are a lot of exciting things coming up in the near future for myself and my studio. While there are no big changes we are continuing the grow, expand, and take on some fun & exciting projects! Along with the up & coming Actors, we photograph we are starting to bring on some celebrity portraits and editorials and take on some really fun Fashion projects. We are collaborating with some amazing people this year so keep an eye out for the finished products!
