Meet Silverlake Photographer and Actor: Terral Altom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terral Altom.

Terral, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and have a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Film from the University of Tulsa. My passion for photography started with Black & White film classes in college. Developed a passion for capturing images of people and nature. After graduating I moved to LA to pursue a career in acting, it has always been my dream. I currently have a successful career as an actor. But also work and still have my passion for photography. Mainly my work now focuses on beauty. have also shot behind the scenes for music videos, films, album EP covers for, and headshots of actors/models/musicians.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was honestly quite terrifying coming here. That was a little over a year and a half ago. I didn’t know anyone or anything about this city, had no idea how massive it is. My first year was a struggle, living pay check to pay check and getting my name out there. Thankfully now I have a solid footing, a roof over my head, and plenty of friends and connections!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and career?
It’s hard to say. I am very ambitious and hustle for work on a daily basis. That being said I very much believe in luck and the advantages of being positive. I also spot out and pick up heads up coins all of the time, which I like to believe bring me a lot of luck.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honestly, my beard. The beard has gotten me more compliments and work than I could have ever imagined. The beard is what built my social media presence, and my social media presence is why I get any photography or modeling gigs. Because people like my pictures, yeah, but they also like the amount of followers I have. Which is kind of silly in my opinion, but what can you do? It’s the way the world works now.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The opportunity is definitely the best aspect of LA, there is a lot of it for the taking if you just work hard at obtaining what you want. I also like being so close to the beach mountains, and desert. The traffic SUCKS, definitely the worst thing about this city. And the people, you have to watch out for. Some are great, others are sharks waiting to eat you alive.
