Meet Shiloh Pettyjohn of Web Studios West in Atwater Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shiloh Pettyjohn.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shiloh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2000, I was working at a dot com that was imploding. I set out of my own with a childhood friend to start our own Tech consulting company, servicing small to midsize businesses, primarily in the Entertainment business in the Los Angeles area. We later merged with another company who primarily worked with government technology, we had an excellent background in Open Source technologies and did that for a while, then we choose to part ways and became Web Studios West in 2003. We expanded the business, added a ton of local contracts for IT Support and Web Development and then ventured into building ECommerce sites. We got so good at the business of ECommerce that we decided to sell off all the IT portion of our business and focus solely on building amazing ECommerce sites with a penchant for Action, Sports, Fashion and Entertainment.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with any business starting off you always have challenges, figuring out how to maintain budgets, bringing projects in on time, meeting clients’ needs and expectations, changing landscapes in the ECommerce space… I would say the biggest challenge in growing a business is managing client expectations and goals and weirdly enough the thing that made us a pro at that was just getting our feet wet and doing the job. There is no school that can teach that. Once we got that down, the projects just rolled off. As an entrepreneur, even though I was blessed to have a business partner to work with, sometimes neither of us had a clear path of what to do, so if you make a mistake, or you don’t deliver what is promised then you as the owner are on the hook. At the end of the day you’re the last to be paid, the bills and employees and rent comes first. That’s the challenge, and also the game of it, overcoming those things.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Web Studios West – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Web Studios West is a company that builds Custom Web Solutions, we primarily work in the ECommerce space, we build small medium and very large websites. We have a lot of customers that rely on our expertise in Magento. I’d say what sets us apart from others is our individual viewpoints go into each and every project, we are particular about the work we accept and we pick and choose the projects that will go with our company identity, this enables us to produce a really beautiful and viable and cost-effective product for our global customers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We recently moved into a new creative space in Atwater Village right in the heart of the arts area, this has opened the door to big expansion including new employees sharing the space. We just rolled an all-inclusive package for Web Design, Development and Hosting that we are getting great response on that makes it very easy and clear for a business to get a great website. We are planning a big soiree at the new office! I’m super excited about that!
