Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Yacoubian.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shawn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Fighting came naturally to me once I enrolled into Martial Arts at the age of 14. I studied the disciplines of Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing and then Muay Thai, which became my passion. I had the opportunity to learn from champion fighters during my training and was encouraged to compete. My first amateur fight was in 1996 in El Monte, CA. I found the challenge to be exciting and decided to pursue my career.
Over the years, I moved up the ranks, trained with some of the best and soon was traveling the world for training and fighting. My proudest moment in my fighting career was winning my professional debut by knockout. I fought on a premier show alongside many accomplished and legendary fighters.
Today I have turned my passion into sharing my skills with others. Yacoubian Muay Thai Academy has been open for three years and our mix of both kids and adults is inspiring. I personally enjoy teaching the kids’ classes as I can see their eagerness and progress that comes out during their training.
For me Martial Arts is a way to give back to the community through my passion.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part the road has smooth with a few bumps along the way. I would say the biggest struggle for the business was location. Finding a space that accommodates the client’s travel schedule.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Yacoubian Muay Thai Academy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The business is a Martial Arts Studio with an emphasis on Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Boxing for all levels.
We are proud of having a responsible and dedicated staff along with students who are eager to learn.
We live for the success stories that our gym brings. We love achieving our student’s goals no matter what they are. Whether it is athletes cross training with another sport, parents who want to instill discipline for their child and an emphasis on kids who have issues with bullying and confidence.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We Love LA! Traffic, not so much.
