Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Sasooness.
Shawn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a lawyer for six years now, opening Sasooness Law Group four years ago. I believe and will forever say that I would not be where I am today but for the people around me. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by incredible people, both in my personal life and legal career. One piece of advice I give every young professional that seeks my advice is to surround yourself with people that are better than you and develop that skill. So many young professionals want to do everything themselves and be the best at everything, and that is just not possible. You can only single-handedly do so much. Develop the skill to surround yourself with great people.
I started my legal career working for my brother-in-law as a litigation attorney for two years. My experience there was invaluable. I was doing what I wanted to do, and that was representing clients in court. In those two years, I slowly built a name for myself and gained a client-base. I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to work for my brother-in-law because he allowed me to bring in my own clients and handle those cases. After two years of doing that, I decided to open my own firm. Unlike most people who open their own firm that start with zero cases, my brother-in-law allowed me to take all my cases with me and gave me some of his cases to start. That was a tremendous help to me starting out, and I took full advantage.
When I started Sasooness Law Group, I was a one-man operation working out of a small room. Now, four years later, we have a staff of 15+, with offices all over the state of California representing hundreds of clients all over California. We specialize in three areas of law – personal injury, employment, workers’ compensation, and we are great at what we do. There are three main things I am a strong believer of for building a company or business – structure, people, learning. Structure: I am big on the importance of the structure of a company. I believe how you structure the firm or company from the ground up is of utmost importance for the healthy and efficient growth of a company, and that is what I focus on a daily basis, from operations, personnel, new growth opportunities, etc. People: A company will only grow and be as successful as the people in it.
As the owner of a firm, it is my job to hire the best and keep them happy. You don’t have the be the best at everything your company does or even know how to do everything, nor should you ever want to. There are people out there that are better than you at certain things and it’s your job to find them and keep them. Learning: You always need to be learning and making an adjustment. All success comes from failure, and all failure comes with lessons. Learn from your experiences and make the adjustments necessary to success. These are some of the very few things that have got me to where I am today, and I appreciate having this opportunity to think and reflect on this.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, but would not change it for the world. If you love what you do, you are doing it not just for the destination but for the journey. I have made numerous mistakes, very costly ones, but I have learned from every single one, and that is the most important thing.

Sasooness Law Group is a law firm that specializes in three areas of law – personal injury, employment, workers’ compensation, and we are great at what we do. The thing that I am most proud of in my law firm is the people, hands-down. The success of my company comes from the people in it, and that is something that I will be dedicated to continuing indefinitely.
There are two things that I believe are the foundation of what sets us apart from other law firms – our service and the results we get. Like most successful companies that offer services, we pride ourselves on providing great service to our clients. Also, we are always focused on the results we get for our clients. We are constantly adjusting to what we need to get the best results possible for our clients, and that shows, and that is what encourages our success and growth.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my opinion, overall success comes from a balance. There needs to be a balance of personal life and work-life – the work-life balance it is known as. If you are living the lifestyle you want to live, you are successful. This can mean having a significant other you love and grow with, building a family, spending time with friends, enjoying hobbies you love, doing what you love to do for work (and if you’re making good money doing it, that is just icing on the cake), giving back to your community, etc. These are all just examples of different things. I have things in my life that I want to be part of the lifestyle I want to live, and if I am doing those things, I believe I am succeeding.
