Meet Sharon Bensason of Ron Tomson in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Bensason.

Sharon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I came from a long line of textile and fashion oriented family. It goes all the way back to a small town in Spain called Behar in the 15th century. My ancestors worked in crafts related to Behar’s back then important textile industry. Probably it is in the genes but heroes are my parents and grandparents. After school, I used to spend time with them at work. I started my own label in 2006 in Los Angeles. In 2014, we started our first retail store on Los Angeles Street. We then expanded the store in 2014 to a 8000 sq. ft. dream store with onsite tailors, stylists, photo studios and showrooms where we exhibit our entire collection.

Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t, there aren’t smooth roads when pursuing dreams. I think 2008 was the hardest year for not only us but the whole industry. But I am lucky to have my wife my family and an amazing team to work with. Together we were able to get by.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ron Tomson story. Tell us more about the business.
We are probably best known for our distinct look and our fits. I am most proud when people tell me how many compliments they got when they wore our cloths. We go long ways to make sure we have produced an exceptional garment. I can definitely say that we have the passion and the know how that most others don’t.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The talk of the town is how brick and mortar is being swallowed by online retail. I think in the near future we will see revolutionary and very exiting changes in to the way fashion brands carry themselves and communicate to their audience.

The old and traditional ways of doing fashion, and retail are being hammered by the online retail phenomena. Eventually Fashion brands and retailers will use their creativity to come back at the game and that will be exciting to see.
