Meet Sharleen Shayan of Sol Recruiting / Sharleen’s Blog

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharleen Shayan.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first started as a receptionist at a gym while I was a student. It was simple, going to school three days a week and working two days a week. The job was easy, the owner was wonderful, allowed me to do homework whenever I wasn’t busy. From there, I switched to another job while still a student – also a receptionist. I realized, being a receptionist is not going to get me anywhere, career-wise, when I get older. I then found a part-time job as a recruiter in the healthcare field. It was your typical 9-5 corporate job, but this company was pretty flexible, maybe it was because I was hourly and not salary.

Once I graduated college, I realized I needed something more challenging, so that is when I went to become a recruiter in the legal field. It was something I really enjoyed doing – talking to intelligent people and helping them either find a job or helping them find someone to fill the position. Although I really enjoyed it, the company was not right for me. I then thought ‘hey, I already know how to do everything, why not do it for myself.’ So that’s when I started doing tons of research and a few months later, decided to open my own legal recruiting company – Sol Recruiting. It is wonderful working for myself. And whenever I get too overworked, I just hop onto my blog and write. Being a blogger/influencer is something that I do as a hobby, and realized it is a great getaway from when I am overworking myself.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own company has not been smooth. I had to go through a lot of bumps. I had to do tons of research because starting your own recruiting company is different in every state – different certifications and/or requirements are needed. I also had to make sure I had the right drive and budget to start my own company – other than that, I was just wasting time and money to end up doing nothing.

Sol Recruiting / Sharleen’s Blog – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So, I see myself with two businesses. One is my own recruiting company and the other is my blog. My recruiting company, called Sol Recruiting, is where I work with law firms and companies and help them find who they need in their office, whether it’s an attorney, legal secretary, or paralegal. For my blog, Sharleen’s Blog, I really just write about my travels, product reviews, and fashion. Like I mentioned, it is something I use as a getaway when I am being overworked, so whenever I think about writing about something I do!

I am so proud of both of my businesses because these are like my baby’s! I am here to take care of them and grow with them, no matter how hard it gets. And, I am proud of myself for being able to start Sol Recruiting from scratch and having it grow!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career is honestly, just getting it started. It was something I always thought about doing but never did, and one day I had the drive to just start it. And, I couldn’t have done it without such an amazing support system.
