Meet Shareen Hakim of The Bead Factory in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shareen Hakim.

Shareen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Beads Factory is family owned and operated the business for over 34 years. Our United States store opened up back in 1984 here in Downtown Los Angeles, and it is one of 3 stores throughout the Middle East and Canada. This business originates back to the 1940’s in Iraq where Mr. Hakim Sr. opened up his first store, eventually moving it to Lebanon in the 1970’s. Thanks to him, his children currently individually own and operate various stores around the world today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It certainly has not been a smooth road, like in any business you are going to experience hiccups here and there. Since we are such a specialized and unique store there have been times that due to our economy throughout the years that we have suffered, but we have always persevered.

We also know that there is competition out there with other stores, which only causes us to always be on the lookout for the best products available.  We also pride ourselves on customer service, which Mr. Hakim embedded in his children.  We strive to not only provide great products but customer service both in our store and online.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Bead Factory – what should we know?
Our business is a wholesale and retail store that specializes in selling items for customers to create any DIY items, from jewelry making to decorating your favorite shirt.

We carry a wide selection of rhinestones, beads, chains and different findings to help our customers with any project they may have. What sets us apart from our competitors is having biggest possible inventory, keeping prices as low as possible, and great customer service.

We are grateful to be given an opportunity to serve our community in a very unique way.  We are proud to have watched what was a dream to my grandfather, grow even further beyond his and our expectations. We will be announcing the opening of a new location very soon.  Please visit our website at www.beadsfactory.com.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Thanks to my grandfather, Mr. Hakim Sr. for his hard work ethic, and most importantly his love and compassion for the business, we are able to continue to help the business grow beyond his exceptions.
