Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Hart.
Shannon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
On our second date, Ty (my now-wife) and I were sitting in The Griddle in Hollywood and I said to her, “One day I want to own a place just like this.” It’s been a long road and a lot of hard work, but fifteen years later, here we are.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting any business from the ground up is a challenge. The first step is the hardest; it’s terrifying to risk everything on a dream. It’s a long road and one of the biggest struggles can be staying on the path towards realizing your vision. Lots of opportunities come up along the way and it can be hard to know which ones are going to push you in the right directions and which ones are going to distract you. But you just gotta trust and believe!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in dinner at grandma’s and guilty pleasures.
We started this restaurant because we wanted people to remember what slow-cooked food can taste like. Some people call “slow food” a movement; for us it’s just a way of life. We’re here because we love the feeling of giving somebody something that you know is going to make them smile. There’s nothing better than putting a plate down in front of someone and hearing them say, “Wow.” That feeling never gets old.
We built our restaurant by hand. All of the tables and cabinets were built in our backyard. The brick is all hand-stained. Our family and friends came together to help us (literally) build a dream with our bare hands. It’s amazing to have that kind of support.
What are we most proud of? We’re proud of our team and what we have accomplished together. Everyone who works here is deeply invested in the food and the customer experience. It’s an amazing experience to feel the love that our whole team has for what we do. Good food is about good family, and we’re proud to have both of those things in our kitchen.
What would you have done differently?
I would have put in more electrical outlets. Why is there never a goddamn outlet where I need it?
