Meet Shanna Forrestall of Forrestall Consulting in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanna Forrestall.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been involved in marketing for over 20 years, and production for over 12. With the relatively recent developments in social media, I began to focus on the innovative communication outlets now available for businesses and nonprofits to spread the word about their products, services or message.

With the practical use of digital content for social media, it was a natural progression for me to turn from producing television and film to producing low budget content for my clients and causes.

I’ve been a lifelong humanitarian and have worked with nonprofits to help families after many major disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, the Great Flood of 2016 in Louisiana and most recently in the Houston area after Hurricane Harvey.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is life ever “smooth”? Technology and social media evolve constantly, so it’s a process to stay current, but that’s also what makes it exciting.

So many of my clients struggle with marketing and social media, so I work to help minimize the struggle.

I like to work with my clients to teach them how to think about their business, and how to ask the right questions, that way they learn how to grow and change as their business does. There is never one way to do marketing or social media. It’s subjective. What ‘s important is that we know how to determine WHAT we need to know and the most effective and cost-efficient ways to get things done.

Please tell us about Forrestall Consulting.
I work with businesses and nonprofits to help them accomplish their goals. I help clients to clarify their vision, goals and client base, and then set a strategic plan to reach them as effectively as possible. This can range from weekly consulting with small business owners, to social media setup, cleanup and/or training them or their staff to use it well. We primarily focus on Facebook for Business, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+. We also help clients to design tools to improve their marketing like video blogs, recorded interviews, commercials for social media/web, e-books, whiteboard commercials, email newsletters and other digital assets.

Right now, I’m also looking for some larger projects to merge my passion for marketing and communication with important cause work.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to do it again, I would have focused more quickly. This industry is broad and you can’t possibly know or be good at everything. The work I do now is laser-focused and I feel like I can really help my clients because my knowledge is relevant, fresh and practical.

I don’t know everything, and I don’t need to. I align myself with other companies who do whatever I don’t do.

I’ve also learned to better value my work and creativity. I choose clients carefully and align myself with companies and individuals that I feel will be good partners. I want to enjoy my work AND produce real results.
