Meet Shana Lord of Aerial Warehouse in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shana Lord.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from Vancouver BC. After an Elite level gymnastics career in Canada I moved to Los Angeles in 1993 to pursue dance on a scholarship at the Edge Performing Arts center. I was recruited by Cirque du Soleil in 1995 and began to work on their show entitled Quidam. Was later part of many other Cirque style creation teams traveling worldwide. Television appearances include The Today Show, The Grammy Awards, and The MTV Video Music Awards. Performances with music artists including Gwen Stefani, Will Smith, and Anastacia. After touring for many years, focus switched to teaching. Pilates and Functional exercise was a passion of many years and still is today. That passion for teaching creative fitness sparked an interest in opening a space devoted to an alternative, fitness source for kids and adults. Aerial Warehouse became that place.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always many struggles when opening a business that is unlike any other. We still have challenges today just articulating what we do. Wendy and I just keep putting 1 foot in from of the other. Sometimes it is 1 step forward and a few backwards but the passion for empowering people to reach full their potentials keeps us going strong.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Aerial Warehouse – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Aerial Warehouse is an alternative fitness source for kids and adults. We host classes & events instructing what we call, Action Arts and Aerial Arts. Action Arts uses solid fundamentals from sports like gymnastics to provide an urban parkour environment. We pair dance and musicality with circus arts to establish a unique Aerial Arts experience. Our qualified team delivers a teamwork approach with outstanding results showing our students the impossible can be very possible.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
For now we are staying on the small size while storming a sensical business model with a relatively new business. We like to try new things so we will open some new adult fitness classes as well as expand our kids program with new programs, camps and partnerships.
