Meet Serena Teddy of Steddy Health and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Serena Teddy.

Hi Serena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For me, the need for Steddy Health started with my own story. Living with an autoimmune condition, I was told—like so many others—that this was a lifelong fate. Modern medicine has made incredible progress in slowing disease progression, but the price for that progress is often steep. Immune-suppressing drugs save lives, but they also leave patients vulnerable to infections, heart disease, and even cancers. It can feel like being stuck between a rock and a hard place—declining health from the disease on one side, and life-altering side effects from the medications on the other.

For years, I refused to accept that this was the only path forward. I began asking: why did I get sick? That question pushed me to explore everything—medicine, nutrition, functional medicine, psychology, and even spirituality. When I brought up my belief that we could undo this, colleagues and experts dismissed me. After all, if specialists with decades of experience didn’t believe reversal was possible, why should I? But I wasn’t willing to surrender. So, I became my own experiment. I followed the conventional treatments when I needed to, but I also layered in protocols, supplements, mindset work, and lifestyle shifts. Over time, something extraordinary happened: I went from 18 years of relying on two immunosuppressive drugs (and even enduring chemotherapy twice) to being five years completely medication-free.

That transformation is why Steddy Health exists. I know firsthand the frustration, the fear, and the hope that comes with autoimmune illness. I also know what’s possible when we look at healing differently. Steddy Health was created to give others what I fought to give myself—a path that doesn’t just manage illness, but helps people move toward true health and wholeness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been fortunate to have brilliant doctors—many of them researchers at teaching hospitals—who gave me access to the latest and most effective treatments. But it hasn’t been a smooth road, because my destination was different from theirs. Their goal was to stabilize me, to get my numbers looking normal. My goal was something no one thought possible: to undo my disease.

For nearly a decade, I became both patient and researcher. I read books, experimented with nutrition—vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free—tracked my labs and compared them to my symptoms. I tried supplements, studied functional medicine, and explored the mental and spiritual aspects of healing. Support forums were full of people lost in their symptoms, battling insurance, or celebrating small victories. But I couldn’t find anyone quite like me—a provider and a patient—trying to rewrite the playbook. Sometimes I even wondered if I was crazy for going against the grain.

When I finally went off my medications, I did it with bated breath. I told no one at first—not even my husband. Three months later, I told him. Six months after that, I told my rheumatologist. And it wasn’t until two full years later that I said it out loud to anyone else who asked. I needed to be sure that what I had done was real, that this wasn’t just another failed attempt like the times before when I tried tapering off. That period was one of the hardest parts of my journey—the waiting, the watching, the holding my breath to see if my body would hold steady. And it did.

We’ve been impressed with Steddy Health and Wellness , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Steddy Health & Wellness is a functional medicine company built on the belief that true healing happens when we bring together science, soul, and medicine. We specialize in working with women living with chronic or autoimmune conditions—especially those who feel unheard, dismissed, or exhausted from endless medications and supplements that don’t seem to bring real relief. These women often carry unanswered questions and growing symptoms, and our work is about decoding the stories their bodies are telling, uncovering root causes, and supporting their physiology so they can move toward natural healing.

What sets us apart is the perspective I bring as both a provider and a patient. I know what it feels like to sit on both sides of the exam room. Steddy Health exists to bring clarity—to look at the numbers, listen to the story, and piece everything together—so women can finally understand their health in a way that feels whole. Through personalized consultations, I partner with women to uncover what their bodies are trying to say and design practical, supportive steps toward better health.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Steddy Health was born from lived experience, not just theory. It’s deeply personal, and every client interaction is built on empathy and understanding. My hope is that readers know this: your body is on your side. My role is to help you listen to it, make sense of its signals, and support you on your healing journey.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
There are so many people I’m deeply grateful for in helping bring Steddy Health to life. My patients, Steve, were the first ones to encourage me to branch out—even seeking me out after the practice I was working at transitioned to a concierge model, which meant many of them could no longer continue care there. My first business partner, Lucy, gave me the courage to challenge the status quo, and my close friend, Fiona, patiently listened as I drafted and refined patient materials, offering honest feedback every step of the way.

I honestly don’t know how Steddy Health could have come to be without them. And truthfully, I don’t see success as a destination—it’s a journey. It requires constant refinement, effort, and re-evaluation. My hope is that Steddy Health will always be evolving to adapt with the changing times, all in service of the people it was created to help.
