Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Keelin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Scott. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My photography business started as a side-gig a couple of years ago with aspirations to change my hobby into something that supported itself. My passion for photography started at an early age and it expanded from only taking landscapes (as a hobby), to now shooting portraits and aerial photography professionally.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far it has been fairly smooth. I really enjoy making it known that my job is to make sure the client is happy. I like to incorporate humor while keeping photography sessions easy-going, all the while maintaining professionalism. This method has seemed to create a great rapport with those I do business with.
Please tell us about Keelin Photography.
Currently the two primary focuses of my photography business are Family Portrait and Aerial photography. I started with offering mobile portrait sessions emphasizing natural light for my subjects. Most clients living in the South Bay are within minutes of a beach or park which cuts down on having to drive 30 minutes to a specific location to shoot. With the age of everything digital, I still like to include a gift when I shoot as a thank you for business. I deliver just a few of my favorite prints in a very fancy box complete with decorated ribbon.
I’m also a private pilot and became certified to legally operate a drone for hire. This has definitely been a very exciting and growing part of my business. I specialize in real estate listings to really show off the property and surrounding areas, especially when they have a beautiful ocean view.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have just started much earlier! It’s a really neat thing to be able to be compensated for something you truly enjoy.
