Meet Scot Mendelson of Mendy’s Gym in Van Nuys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scot Mendelson.

Scot, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Through a troubled youth I found weightlifting and it really saved my life and put me on a positive path to where I am today. Along my journey I garnered 5 world championships and 65 world records including those for bench pressing over 1100 lbs. Over the course of the last 20 years I’ve built and owned many gyms, but this latest one is definitely the sickest, most bad-ass gym I’ve ever built!

Has it been a smooth road?
There have always been ups and downs, but that is the nature of the beast when you own your own business and are trying to do big important things. If it were easy then everyone would do it, so I embrace the struggles because they only make me and my team stronger.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mendy’s Gym – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Mendy’s Gym specializes in personal training and also has many group classes, including MMA, jiu-jitsu, powerlifting, arm wrestling, boxing, boot camps and Zumba. Clients can also join just to work out on their own at our facility, which they have access to 24 hours a day with their own electronic key entry. I feel one of the main things that separate us from the pack is the number of state, national and world champions that we have available for people to train with. The instruction you’re going to get training out of Mendy’s Gym is going to be world class. In addition to that, it is such a family atmosphere here between the trainers the clients and me, you are never just a number like at all of the big chain gyms.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love meeting people from all different walks of life. Everyone has a unique story of how they became the person they are today. Our environment, meaning the city and the people who live here, can really shape who we become. So I enjoy being a positive force for good in people’s lives that I come in contact with. That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning and gives me the drive to continue striving for greatness both as an athlete and as a business owner, personal trainer and mentor.

The thing I like least about our city is the traffic! Because I love to drive fast and you can’t do that when traffic’s backed up for two city blocks!
