Meet Sashaaa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sashaaa.

Sashaaa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a Haitian girl born and raised in Miami, Fl and partially raised on my native island, Haiti. I start by establishing my roots whenever I introduce myself as it plays a huge part of my identity. I owe my resilience, my values, my faith to my culture. If anyone knows anything about Haitians is that we where wear our history proudly on our sleeve. My music is not only influenced by musical legends such as (Beyoncé, Shakira, Wizkid, Brandy, Jennifer Hudson, Toni Braxton) but is heavily influenced by the sounds of my culture. My passion for music sparked around the age of four I just loved to sing and put on a show for my family.

A passion for dance followed around 10 which is when I joined a young girls dance group (Hands 2 Help Inc). I owe a lot to this organization as they helped mold me into a performer. They gave me all the tools I needed for my growth; Encouragement, Lessons, and a platform to perform around the community. Fast forward to undergrad, I began to record music professionally in 2016. It started with background vocals then features but later blossomed to my own original work. 04/2019 began my monetization journey. This year officially released my art out for sale and I became a professional recording artist and singer. With that came paid performances and building my brand (Sashaaa). As an independent artist, I am an Entrepreneur and I am the business and commodity. My art and my image is what I’m marketing in return for revenue and I wouldn’t have life any other way. I am transcending genre with my sound which is (kompa fusion). I blend my Caribbean sound with Afro, R&B and pop. My music is very positive and empowering just like my character.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Growing as an independent artist in Los Angeles has to be one of the most challenging things in my life. Surviving in an expensive, overpopulated and competitive city is one thing. Everyone else is chasing your same dream but you must remind yourself your purpose is different. The other struggle is having to deal with unprofessional people, people who take advantage of you and don’t take you serious. When your an artist, you collaborate with others to make your vision possible and sometimes others will slack off not communicate and not be punctual when It comes to getting things done. That being said it’s worth fighting for especially when it’s my passion and purpose in life. God has blessed me with a voice and skill to radiate onto others and it’s my job to cultivate and flourish into the artist I was born to be.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My music is my brand. My music is a product. As a creative, I find my passion limitless and open to all artistic avenues. Aside from my professional music career, I am a professional actress and dancer. I also produced my own socially conscious talk show that I air on my social media social media platforms. I am proud of my influence and impact my music has on others.

My heart is filled because I believe my purpose in life is to radiate light in others’ lives. I bring positive vibes/energy. When people listen to my music they get up and dance and they are in a better mood. A lot of other artists may say their sound sets them apart, and I believe that as well but not only does my sound set me apart, I’m transcending genre. My kompa fusion sound can’t find under one umbrella. I add elements of pop, r&b, afro to my native island rhythms. As an artist, I create everything and anything that resonates with my soul. Beyoncé is my role model, as she influenced my artistry in that aspect.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I think I would have wished to have more training and resources growing up. I feel if I was exposed to a more diversity it would have extended my music palette today. If I had classical training or consistent instrument and music theory training I feel I could have been more of a well-rounded artist. Despite this, I am happy with the artist I am and the artist I’m becoming.
