Meet Sasha Masiuk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Masiuk.

Sasha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career by working as an illustrator for games industry, which later sparked my interest in tattoo artistry. I loved painting and drawing since I was 5 years old. I opened my own tattoo studios in both St. Petersburg 2014 and Moscow in 2015. After moving to Berlin in 2015, I not only developed my skill among the European market but additionally managed to open a studio in Barcelona with my partner Kate. Both my studios in Russia closed a few months ago because of war between Russia and Ukraine. I’m Ukrainian and it’s so painful to see. I moved to USA five years ago. Today, I’m living in LA and own two studios. My personal one in Downtown LA and second studio based in Highland Park we opened it together with my partner Nora and named Sashatattooing Gallery

My work is distinct by my technique of applying tattoos in floral motifs and mandalas. My portfolio includes a client list that has been expanding ever since my first studio and not only celebrity clients, but also collaborations with big beauty and fashion houses.

I have a list of apprentices who became professional tattoo artists who really popular around the world and biggest part of them working at my studios in Barcelona or LA. I’m so proud of them each of them has a unique style.

To be honest, I stopped tattooing in 2022 and right now I’m ready for something big. I have so many ideas and finally, I have time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me it was fast. I started tattooing and less then one year I opened my first studio and started taking apprentices. Because no one has the same style as mine. I couldn’t take new clients and didn’t answer my emails for the next two years. So I decided to share my knowledge.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I collaborated a lot with big names. One of them I’m so proud. I have my own pair of Reebok sneakers with my design! It was big collaboration in 2015, it was sold out around the world. It was so much fun to work with main Reebok office in Boston at that time. And it inspired me to move to the USA.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Don’t give up! I started my second business with temporary tattoos and had biggest sales during Covid quarantine.
