Meet Sarah Hallman of the BODYLAB LA in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hallman.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have had several careers in my life and getting to this one has been a journey. I moved to LA from Kansas to be a wardrobe stylist and work in fashion, it was my dream to own my own line. After 5 years I realized that it wasn’t so dreamy and I needed to make a change. I have always been very active and I wanted to do something that would help people feel good about themselves. So on a whim I signed up for a year-long Pilates training program. I worked for various studios around LA for 3 years. During that time, I began noticing that my clients were not getting all the benefits that Pilates touts. They were still complaining of pain, neck and shoulder tension, poor posture was not getting resolved so I started to dig deeper, literally and figuratively. Digging into the body with my touch as clients were doing the exercise so I could help them access the correct muscles and movement and break out of old muscle patterning. And digging deeper in my study and knowledge of the body. I went to shiatsu massage school, studied myofascial release aka Structural Integration or Rolfing, read everything I could about functional movement and practiced, Practiced techniques and using my intuition in helping clients get out of pain and move in alignment. As I was developing this way of working with the body I realized I needed my own space to work it in as I was not really doing Pilates anymore. So I opened my own studio 5 years ago and have been thriving off of referrals and learning everyday and loving what I do.

Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t judge the road as smooth or difficult. I just accept it for what it is and follow it where it leads so it’s challenging for me to think of obstacles. Every moment has pushed me to grow and brought me where I am.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
At the Body Lab LA I look at each body individually, in the moment and discover what would maximize your potential. I unravel stuck patterns of tension that lead to improper form and movement through touch, i.e.; massage, myo-fascial release, then after you have more mobility and greater access to the proper muscle firing, I give you individualized exercises to work you out in a whole new way.

I specialize in getting people out of pain, sometimes it is a quick fix and sometimes it is a process. I specialize in getting proper functioning back after a surgery or injury. I can do everything from improving the ergonomics of how you sit in your car to toning your body to relieving hip pain. This is a one stop shop. At the body lab we dissect your body and put all the pieces back together optimally. We address the body, mind and how the emotions are intertwined in each. I can also incorporate energy work into the sessions- in eastern philosophy they teach that pain is just blocked energy- so I work on unblocking that energy.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great city for a business like mine. I am in the business of healing people, of making people feel good in their bodies both physically and mentally and this city of full of people who need that. And being such a large population with lots of stress this place is ideal. Also the west coast attitude is more open-minded to thinking outside the box, open to discovering new ways of doing and looking at things. And I will give you a whole new understanding of your body.
