Meet Sarah Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Gonzalez.

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I stepped into spirituality just about four years ago. It began with a reawakening of energetic connections and this push to finally trust my intuition. Those leaps of faith led me to meet some of the most magical mentors, colleges, and friends. I spent the first year just absorbing as much knowledge as I could. Thankfully, I was taken under the wing of Bonnie Minnis, an incredible teacher and Shamanic Practitioner. She taught me so much all while allowing me to grow independently learning to trust my judgement and experiences.

Eventually, these synchronistic events would lead me to hold my own meditation classes. This was a huge leap into the unknown. I had primarily been working as a nurse and mother and really had to confront my fears and ties with imposture syndrome when stepping into this space. All of a sudden, people were listening to my stories, my dreams, and visions and that was honestly terrifying. But I just kept going anyway and I’m so damn grateful I did. Today I continue to raise my children, work as a nurse, see clients through my own business, Sarah & The Beyond, and co-run Mystic Mysteries with my friend and business partner, Teejay.

Creating Sarah & The Beyond was such a liberating experience, it manifested as this space where I could authentically share my medicine with the world. It’s continually evolving and just in the past few months, I’ve added an herb blend offering line called, Beyond Offerings. Working closely with my Shamanic training and my connection to Ancestor medicine the herbs just seemed to be calling my name. I create custom blends for my clients and friends and am intuitively creating new offerings all the time.

Mystic Mysteries came to be after a few months of teaching Pillows & Portals with Teejay, The Half Ass Witch. This was an intuitive dream class we created after countless conversations about our dreams and visions. Where Sarah & The Beyond is more calm and at times serious, Mystic Mysteries is this absolute playground. We have the best time creating classes and finding practitioners from all over the world to come and teach for our students. We opened Mystic Mysteries in October of 2020 and each month it’s a whole new party. We love supporting our community, friends, and colleges and we pride ourselves on our ethics and morals. We honor cultural tradition and are proud that our classes offer the opportunity to explore a diverse collection of magical modalities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like this path I’ve chosen is always evolving so, of course, that comes with its fair share of trials and lessons to be learned. The spiritual community is a beautiful space but I learned quickly it can also be a toxic, competitive, and exhausting crowd to run in. Through my years of boundary work, I’ve learned how to hold space for myself and truly trust when I need to speak up or simply step back and take a break.

The goal for me has always been to live in a balanced, neutral space. If you’ve ever heard me speak or read any of my work chances are you’ve heard me say, “No one thing should be your everything.” I think it can be attractive to dedicate yourself fully to a certain lifestyle but that’s never worked for me. So while I can feel overwhelmed at times balancing the many roles I play, I’m grateful for the grounding it brings me. My work as a nurse reminds me of the real-life events happening in our world that require our attention and action, being a mother demands I give up some of my less important distractions so I can be fully present for the two wonderful children who deserve it all. And the reality is that each of these moving, evolving pieces of my life fulfill me in a way I would have never expected.

I am and will forever be learning how to exist here authentically, so I try my best to keep an open mind and humble heart.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the past few years, I have dedicated time and energy to receive training in Shamanic Healing, Mediumship, Channeling, and Holographic Sound. I offer an array of sessions ranging from inner child work to conscious coaching. In my role at Mystic Mysteries, I offer educational classes on things like automatic writing, mediumship, lucid dreaming and earth medicine.

I feel like my role as a spiritual practitioner is to show my clients how empowering magic can be. One of the things that I realized along my own journey was how important it was to learn to trust myself, to believe in myself, and to really understand I was all I needed. And believe me, I know how cheesy and typical that sounds coming from a spiritual person but it’s true.

So when I work with a client the practice is completely individualized. I take the foundation of my work and then allow it to mold to the person I’m working with, boosting what they are already comfortable with and taking small steps into the unknown together. I’ve seen this practice of mine work in incredible ways, helping my clients to feel more confident in their work. And I think the best part is that there is no end goal, we step into the space with open hearts and minds and begin unfolding the layers of healing together.

A big part of my work and belief system is to address what needs addressing. There is no cheat code, no skipping ahead because I know how important deep healing really is, I’m a huge advocate of not bypassing the hard stuff. Earlier on, I spoke just a bit on the toxic side of spirituality and this really comes up with one on one work. Spirituality can look so enticing and if you are drawn into the more “love & light” side of things you’ll be doing a great disservice to yourself. That’s not to say there aren’t benefits from trying to have a positive outlook but if that path you’re on is asking you to just ignore your problems or the problems of others and the world around you, it’s based on delusion and ultimately, you might just end up in a loop of confusion.

Again, my goal here is balance and to clearly identify what needs to be seen and what maybe isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I also believe that my reach and work can be applied to anyone. I work with very religious clients, witchy clients, clients who have never picked up a Tarot deck in their life, and it all applies. Magic is in everything.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I definitely don’t have it all figured out, I maintain the stance that I will forever be learning and I give myself permission to be wrong, to grow, to learn, and to change as I follow this path. There is so much I am grateful for that has been brought into my life from my many spiritual adventures and I am looking forward to what is yet to come. Spirituality can come with a lot of assumptions but my advice would be to follow your own heart. Your spiritual practice doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, you can be a nurse and still come home to set up your altar to your guides. Allow yourself space to be flexible and to explore and remember how priceless earning your own trust really can be.
