Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Hallajian.
Sara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 16 years old I was already working the Front Desk at a local hair salon in my hometown, Huntington Beach. I knew I wanted to go straight into Cosmetology school right out of High School and lucky for me a brand new school just opened up in Costa Mesa called, Toni & Guy. After school, I found myself at Toni & Guy, the salon this time, in Newport Beach and I was trained by all the talented educators there. I worked there for 3 years and then decided LA was calling my name. My boyfriend Alex (now Husband) and I left Orange County for good- Santa Monica was our new home.
In 2015 I met Eric Torres who was the founder of Bombshell, Eric interviewed me and decided to hire me as a stylist in his salon allowing me to build an amazing clientele in such a great community. After a few very big years of growth, we were beginning to realize how well we work together. Eric and I decided to officially become business partners and continue to nourish Bombshell into a stronger company and a bigger team. Together, we have rebranded and remodeled our salon to suit our aesthetic and local beachside Santa Monica community. We are looking forward to seeing what the next years ahead have in store for us, our team, and for Bombshell.
Has it been a smooth road?
Looking back I would say I am very fortunate to be where I am right now in my life. Hard work, dedication, and passion have all been huge factors that have played into my career so far. I choose to focus on the opportunities and the positive side of any struggles that I have been faced with, with practice of course. The biggest struggles to have were just learning how to become a better hairstylist for my clients and their expectations for me. I will always continue to educate myself so I can better serve my clients and my team members at my salon.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bombshell Santa Monica – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Bombshell Santa Monica is a hair salon in the heart of Main Street. We are tucked away behind a brand new Blue Bottle Coffee (yum!) inside a beautiful courtyard designed by Frank Ghery. I would have to say my team is very well rounded but if we had to specialize in one thing, it would be Custom Blonding. Basically, we do a significant amount of highlighting and being by the beach, it’s natural for a lot of our guests to want lighter sunkissed hair.
We have had extensive training in L’Oreal Balayage as well as any custom highlighting technique available to us in LA. We have strong Toni & Guy cutting techniques behind us as well which makes us a perfect spot for all genders looking for a hairdresser to give them a detailed and customized haircut. I think the biggest quality that sets my salon apart is that everyone on my team is SO passionate and cares so deeply about creating beautiful work. I’m so proud of my team, and my clients definitely make me feel proud when they compliment the salon and how positive the energy in it is. It just feels so good.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely love Santa Monica and I hope to live here as long as I can afford to! That’s probably the only thing that’s a bummer, too many people want to move here! The community here is wonderful, there are so many different types of people who have moved here from all across the world too. It kind of feels like a small beach town but its surrounded by so much and never gets boring.
