Hi Sanam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My marketing career started back in 2013 when I was The Honest Company’s first-ever intern, my first foray into the marketing world. Subsequently, I interned for other health and wellness companies like Quest Nutrition and Thrive Market. All of these companies were relatively young at the time, so they didn’t have formal internship programs. I reached out, created my own positions, and delved into different job categories to see what I liked. It was during this period that I discovered my affinity for the analytical aspects of marketing, setting the stage for a focused professional trajectory.

Post-grad, I interned at Southwest Airlines, specifically for analytics, which validated my journey. From there, I jumped into a data-driven marketing agency, working on projects with high-caliber luxury beauty and fashion brands. I learned more there than any degree could’ve taught me.

Two years later, a colleague-turned-best friend (Lane) and I decided to embark on a new venture, establishing our boutique agency, Blosm Brands. Our mission was clear – to serve growing small businesses seeking top-tier expertise without the prohibitive costs associated with larger agencies. Today, almost five and a half years since our inception, we take pride in leading an exceptional team of 11 women while continually expanding our service offerings.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Successfully steering a small business is undeniably challenging. Each day ushers in new hurdles, and as a new entrepreneur, one is constantly engaged in problem-solving mode – be it grappling with accounting intricacies, making the first crucial hire, establishing business infrastructure, adjusting pricing strategies, implementing automation, and the list goes on.

In my experience, a key takeaway has been the importance of outsourcing tasks in areas where one lacks expertise. Yes, it’s important to be able to learn how to do things in case of emergencies, but generally speaking, as an entrepreneur, you need to be investing time in the things that only you can. The investment may be higher upfront, but it pays for itself in the long run. This principle is a topic we recently discussed on our podcast, Monday Through Sunday, where my partners Lane, Logan, and I outlined the steps to scale a business.

As you know, we’re big fans of Blosm Brands. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
To take it a step back, we are a digital marketing agency servicing luxury, beauty, and fashion brands. At our core, we excel in paid media management, the centerpiece of our suite of services. We offer a range of complementary solutions, including content creation, landing page development, email marketing, influencer and user-generated content (UGC) collaborations, consulting, and more. Despite the common perception that paid media operates in isolation, the reality is that the journey to acquire a new customer involves an omnichannel approach. Ensuring a consistent brand experience across every touchpoint is key, prompting us to expand our service portfolio. Doing more with clients has helped build robust strategies that have led to long-lasting, more fruitful partnerships.

We’ve also recently introduced our new podcast, Monday Through Sunday, available on Apple, Spotify and wherever you get your podcasts. On Monday Through Sunday, we share tactical advice to build the life and career you dream of–one that doesn’t require a weekend to escape from. We’ve already exceeded 10K downloads and have connected with listeners across the country. It’s been a passion project for Lane, Logan and I and I’m incredibly grateful to do this alongside them.

In terms of what I’m most proud of, it’s definitely our team! We have an amazing team of women that genuinely enjoy working together. Our conversations extend beyond the realm of traditional work to-do’s and encompass personal check-ins, goal tracking, Taylor Swift updates and so much more. There’s nothing more I could ask for than having a team that I enjoy working with and that feels supported.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My relationships and my health matter most to me in my life. I am nothing without either! Relationships with my friends and family fuel me each and every day. Sounds incredibly cliché, I’m completely aware, but it’s the truth. On the health side, you can’t enjoy life if you’re not feeling good. Both physical and mental health hold equal weight, and I’ve come to recognize it’s crucial to ensure both are in the best shape possible. I’m unable to be a contributing partner or manager if I’m not taking care of myself. Social media loves to glorify ‘the grind,’ but that’s the antithesis of how I aim to manage my life. If I’m running on empty, that’ll reflect in the quality of my relationships and my work. Take the time to get your priorities straight, plan ahead, and adjust your day to align with your own priorities. You’ll naturally begin to weed out the things, relationships, or stresses that disrupt your flow.
